I am constantly staggered that cars don't see us at such close range, despite all the precautuions we take to make oursleves visible. I read somewhere once that because we are smaller than cars, we don't feature on the vehicle recognition software in a driver's brain. Similarly because of our small size, drivers misjudge the speed/distance calculation which is not tuned for small vehicles, which are assumed to be further away than they really are.
