Sue finally caved in to my not so subtle suggestions that my ST really needed a set of Delkevic pipes just over a month ago.
So, with permission granted, I ordered a set...
A few days after ordering I received the news that there was going to be a delay as there was an issue...apparently there were two left hand connector pipes in the box instead of one left and one right...
Thankfully they picked that up before they sent them...
After confirming that I was prepared to continue with the sale, they ordered in another set. I was told it would probably be a couple of weeks before they received the correct pipes.
Anyhow, around a month after ordering, they arrived.
I fitted them on last Friday afternoon but due to a very busy weekend I only got to try them out today.
They have a lower note than the stock pipes and, to be honest, they are probably a touch noisier than I had hoped but I'm sure I'll get used to them.
Here's hoping they aren't noisy enough to attract the attention of Mr Plod! :cop
Sue reckons they sound pretty good so that's good enough for me...ahhh, happy wife, happy life... :runyay

I must say I'm very impressed with the quality of the exhausts, especially for the price... :thumbs

++ ++. They look good.

Very nice👍

They look very smart Rusty, but you’ll no longer be able to pass your steed off as an electric bike. Sounds like Sue is a bit of a motor-head :p
We’re they much trouble to install?
Oh, and your signature photo is out of date.....

Pretty easy, Steve, the only issue of note was making sure I used the correct connector pipe as it was a little hard to know which one was the left hand one and which one was the right...
Oh, and I ended up cutting a finger on the sharp edge of the muffler strap... :-[

Yeah, I'll sort it one day...it's been in need of an update since I fitted the Sargent seat, now there's yet another reason to update it...lol.

Nice shiney looking pipes there Russ. I picked mine up (from Richard, just north of Armidale, coupla weeks back), they've been sitting in the trailer since, might get a chance to fit 'em later this week, it would be good to compare the note, suspect mine will be quite a bit louder than yours.
Re. OEM pipes, mine have quite a bit of (what I call) tarnish, I presume from excessive heat. Anyone know if there's a way to restore them?

Thanks Michael! :thumbs
Yeah, it will definitely be interesting to compare...
Re the tarnish, before I stored my old pipes, I gave them a clean & polish with some Autosol Stainless Steel Polish (https://autosol.com.au/product-range/stainless-steel-polish-75ml/). While it didn't remove it all, it certainly made them look heaps better...

I forgot to mention earlier, I weighed the original mufflers and going by the figures quoted by Delkevic, there's something like a 6 kilogram weight saving with these pipes... :thumbs

I will weigh my OEM and Delkevic pipes and check the difference, I suspect an even greater saving, but will let you know.

Cheers Michael!
I was probably being a bit conservative with the weight loss as I'm not sure if the figures quoted by Delkevic included the connector pipes or not.
Regardless I reckon you'll be looking at around 7 kilograms or a bit more...

I am impressed by how clean your bike is, do you use it :grin

Just occasionally, Glen, just occasionally...lol... :thumb :beer

Metal polish, and good old elbow grease. Or electric polisher/buffing wheel.

Thanks Dave, your videos inspired me... :thumb

I've been meaning to post a bit of an update for a while so here it finally is!
Well, to put it bluntly, I love them! :rockon
I really love the deeper note and, as none of my neighbours have complained about the noise, I figure they can't be that loud!
They aren't noisy at highway speeds either which I must admit was a slight concern I'd had before I bought them.
As a pillion, Sue has given the noise level her stamp of approval too... :thumbs
On some Delkevic fitted ST1300 videos I reviewed before deciding to purchase, the pipes crackled and popped a fair bit on over-run which did concern me a little but thankfully with mine any crackling and popping is very minimal and basically only happens until the engine is at normal operating temperature.
All in all I'm happy to recommend them! :beer

Awesome to hear your enjoying them mate :thumbsup

The Delkevics on my ST1300 are also not very loud when riding. They do produce a nice growl at start-up and when accerlating through the gears, and provide some nice feedback when riding through some tight twisties when there are many throyyle "on" and "off" situations . I can't say they provide any improvement in performance or fuel economy. Have not had any feedback from the pillion, as yet. When I do, I don't think it will be positive.
Regardless of feedback, but on the balance of current pros & cons, I think I'll be switching back to the OEM pipes, although I will wait until I've had a chance to compare with Rusty's pipes. After this happens, I'll start a thread in Buy, Sell, Swap, Trade, Wanted.... , I think Duncan has already expressed interest, so he will have the first chance to buy.
-
Thanks Michael, I was gonna ask you how you're finding your Delkevics but you beat me to it! :thumbs
The way things are going it might be a while before we get to compare pipes... :'(

Yeah, Sat 14 Aug at Tooradin doesn't look promising. And we may be in the car for Sat 28 Aug at Smeaton. So could be Sat 11 Sep at Tooradin.
