The Eagle has Landed .....
« on: May 13, 2023, 08:38:23 AM »
The Red Winged Eagle that is.

The Mighty ST1300 Mk 11 has arrived, Wednesday afternoon actually.  Early start Wednesday, short walk to #518 bus, train to Southern Cross, V-Line bus to Koo Wee Rup, short drive to farm.

Despite the ST1300 being in pretty good condition (after, all only 54,000km), it needed a decent tidy-up.  The reason for this seems to be largely due to the ST being stored in a farm shed with not enough protection to keep dust out of many of the ST's nooks and crannies.

Spring cleaning commenced yesterday, and it is starting to look respectable, but more work to come, particularly on some of the matt black plastics which have taken on an "oxidised" finish.  I've used up the last of a bottle of a Meguiar's plastic restorer I had o the shelf, and whilst it's doing the job reasonably well, someone (at Apollo Bay?) mentioned a superior product - suggestions, please.

Second task is replace the trickle charge lead plug with on compatible with my charger, and make the lead longer (for Helen's hand warmer - some heated grips).   RH cover off to discover that this job will also require the fitting of a fuse.

More tasks to follow, once items have been sourced and arrive.

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

Try Autoglym Bumper and Trim Gel.    It does a very good job indeed and was recomended to me by a crash repairer who uses it on cars he's worked on.   I  used in on black stuff on both my ST1300 and now on the Beemer.

Congrats on the "new" Mk ll ST, Michael!  :runyay

I can recommend Turtle Wax's 53838 Hybrid Solutions Graphene Acrylic Trim Restorer...https://tinyurl.com/5n83ve4r
I've tried a few different restorers, and this has been the best.
It's a new product so not sure whether you can buy it locally yet or not...I got mine from the States via Amazon Prime so it didn't take long to arrive.

Looking good, Michael!  :thumbs

What did you end up using on the black plastics?

Hmmm, that seat looks a bit familiar!  :whistle

Used the Autoglym Bumper and Trim Gel product mentioned by Pete.  It was on the Repco shelf, the Turtle Wax Graphene Acrylic Trim Restorer wasn't.

Yes, the RDL looks and feels familiar.
