Brisbane to Mudgee for NatRally 2023
« on: August 28, 2023, 03:02:38 PM »
Hey all,

I'm wanting to canvass the thoughts and experiences of those who know the road options from BNE to Mudgee.   I'm looking for an interesting run without too much traffic but on roads that are comfortable on an ST.

I know the Newell and the New England - of the two I'd gladly choose the New England.

However Google shows the shortest route as the B95 (Texas, Warialda, Barraba) followed by the B56 via Gunnedah.  Ive never travelled that route before.  Any opinions?

Thanks,
Steve

All good to Barraba, but the section direct from Barraba to Gunnedah is unsealed an horrible in a car.  You go to Manilla then across to Gunnedah.  I lived in Barraba for 7 years in the 70s.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Thanks Bill.  That would explain why the section from Barraba to Gunnedah doesn't show on Street View.

The road from Manilla via Rushes Creek to Gunnedah looks like a nice country lane.

By the way, I'm expecting to attend the Nat Rally on 2 wheels.  I think Ruth's injured knee has recovered sufficiently.  This will be the first decent ride we've done all year - STrudel is excited  ++

.... I lived in Barraba for 7 years in the 70s.

Brief hi-jack....

Hadn't heard of Barraba before, looked it up, found this:

Pretty impressive building for a NSW town of around 1400 people, could find where it is located though.   Perhaps it's not in Barraba.

Yeah, didn't think so, now there's a challenge to identify the location, first to identify gets a schooner at Mudgee or Mansfield, wherever.

Hi Steve
In May I did a run down through there heading to VIC to meet up with Deisel on the ST towing my camper trailer the route I took was
Warwick - Stanthorpe- Texas- Yetman-Warialda-Bingara- Narrabri-Boggabri-Mullaley-Coolah
On previous rides I have done the more Direct route from home to Coolmunda Texas Bingara Manilla Gunnedah Coolah
Both routes are reasonably good 2 lane roads
The first route has more twistiest and a little more picturesque the section of road from Boggabri to Mullaly was the best section of the ride a good surface through open country ( I may or may not of picked up some time on this section :whistle)
If you would any more info just let me know
We are going with the bike and camper at this stage  plan to over night  Wednesday arrive Thursday
