Just wondering does anyone here have a Guardian bell on there machine I see that in certain circles they are very popular mainly in the USA.
I thought I would put the question to you all to see who subscribes to this curious theory of keeping gremlins away from causing trouble with your bike

cheers

juST to give more description I googled it
A Guardian Bell is a small metal bell that attaches onto a motorcycle to ward off evil spirits. Guardian Bells have more of an effect when given as a gift.

The Legend of the Guardian® Bell

Many years ago, on a chilly moonlit night, an old biker with saddlebags filled with toys and trinkets for the local orphanage, was returning from a long trip.

Nearing the end of his journey, on the side of the highway, lurked a small group of evil little critters. You know the ones, they always leave obstacles like old shoes, pieces of old tyres and other odd things on the road, they also dig those dreaded potholes for bikers to hit and crash, thus giving them a chance to rejoice over their acts of evil. They are... Road Gremlins!

As the old biker rounded a curve, the gremlins ambushed him, causing him to skid and crash before coming to a stop next to one of his saddlebags that had broken free. As he lay there, unable to move, the road gremlins made their way towards his bike. The old biker, not being one to give up, started throwing things at the gremlins. Finally, with nothing else to throw but a bag of bells, he started ringing one in hopes to draw their attention, but instead found that it drove them insane and one by one the gremlins ran off into the darkness of the night.

In the distance two bikers were sitting around a campfire talking about their day’s ride, when they heard what sounded to them like church bells ringing and upon investigating, found the old biker lying along the roadside.

They proceeded to help him up and gather his bike and bags. Then they all headed over to the campsite for a cuppa where the old biker told his 2 new friends the story of the gremlins.

Before setting on his way he cut two pieces of leather from his saddlebags and tied a bell to each one. He then placed them on each of the biker’s motorcycle, as near to the ground as possible. The tired old biker then told his two new friends that with those bells placed on their bikes, they would be protected from the road gremlins and that if ever they're in trouble, just ring the bell and a fellow biker will come to their aid.

So, whenever you see a motorcycle with a bell on it,
you know that the rider has been given a gift of protection.
Around XMAS I usually have Jingle Bells.... which sometimes send me insane

A great marketing idea.    Make up a catchy story with some kind of inexpensive trinket attached to the story, and then flog them by the thousands.   :well

Teenage Mutant Nnja Turtles  and  Roo Whistles (already mentioned) come to mind.  I'm sure you'll think of more.

I got one for Christmas from a friend have hung it from back of rear brake lever, you have to hang them low as possible on the bike so they scare away road demons.

Your bike has drum brakes?

Of course, the foot brake!  Good thinking.  Hopefully they don't hit the ground if you lean in a RH corner.  Could be wearing.

I had an embarrassing moment over biker bells at the Newcastle toy ride last year.
My girl and have this little thing between us with penguins. It is innocent enough but I was at a stand at the newcastle toy ride which sold biker bells and thought I might buy her one.

I was in the dubious company of my  two Harley riding mates who take great delight in ripping on me at the best of times but would crack up if they knew I was looking for a bell with a penguin on it.

Well  they had bells with just about every creature known to man on them  but despite hunting high and low I could not see any bells with a penguin.

My mates were getting impatient and despite me saying I would catch up they hung around in the general vicinity.

Eventually I was forced to ask in my most covert voice the burly guy behind the counter.

Well he immediately erupted into laughter and yelled to his mate also behind the counter
"This guy wants one with a penguin on it."

Sadly it was with in earshot of my mates one of whom kindly said.

Dont worry about him. He's "special". He rides a Honda.

Next thing I knew I was surrounded by biker types ripping on my supposed fascination for penguins.

As well as suffering the ignomy of being a Honda rider I am now am apparently a penguiophile

So I am somewhat sceptical about the magical qualities of biker bells. Haven't worked that well for me.

I'd suggest around your neck so you're always safe, even in bed!
Oh, and on a long string, so it's near the ground.      :rofl

Nah that'd be way too dangerous this early in a relationship. I probably wouldn't even get away with hiding it in some obscure place behind the fairing.

maybe I could start a new craze?

Many years ago, I taped a cheap mouth organ out of sight under a friends bumper with gaffer tape. As he drove off, it started howling...
He stopped several times as he left my home, trying to work out what the hell the noise was...
