ST1100-ST1300 Drive Shaft Spline
« on: February 16, 2020, 09:18:04 AM »
G'day,
can anyone please tell me if the motor output splines on ST1100 and ST1300 are the same, I don't need to know if the shafts will fit either just if a 1300 shaft will plug onto a 1100,
Cheers Joe.

I'm guessing that as no-one has answered, then it hasnt been tried or thought of. What would the purpose of this mating be??

G'day Brock,
and thanks for replying, now this is not hard but this is my problem, I built an ST1100 powered Morganesque Trike, 2 front 1 rear with an automotive style drive shaft, it's two piece with 2" tube.
The spline on the engine output is in my opinion too short, way shorter that the CX500, so at 100kph the front UJ vibrates which means I need a support bearing but that's no go on a 2" tube.

However the ST1300 had a much more simple drive shaft than the 1100 and I could modify one with a support bearing and stop the UJ flapping around, but will a 1300 shaft UJ fit onto an St1100 engine output spline, that's all I need to know, see pic

Cheers Joe.

Ah, now I see. What you may need to do is see if you can find a wrecker with a spline available and see if it matches the 1100.

The diameter of the shaft an the number of teeth might help, then if anyone has a shaft out they could measure it and get an idea.

Here is an idea of information you need, maybe you can get a shaft made to your spec..

Thanks Mate, what I need is an ST1100 motor out of a bike and an ST1300 shaft to try, easy, but I rang around the wreckers in Brisbane today but none had a engine out or two shafts to compare, very frustrating.
If I can't find one I will have to buy another 1100 shaft and modify it but a 1300 would be lighter and simpler, surely someone has a donk out and a couple of shafts!

cheers Joe J.

Contact Wombat, he has an 1100 engine and a 1300 bike, should be able to help however he is away until the end of this week.

G'day,
thanks to Bill for some contact numbers re. 1300 wrecking I am tracking down a 1300 shaft but I still don't know if an ST1300 shaft will fit an ST1100 IE. the same spline, but thought that if we compare  both a 1100 and 1300 motor or UJs we could count the number of splines  on both and see if they are the same, please

Cheers Joe J.
