Definitely change down.
Trying to idle up Mt Cootha in 3rd is a git of an ask even for the ST. On the flat,it will pull away quite nicely.
Nup. Third is the sweet spot for hill climbing, especially in the twisties.
I only drop back to 2nd for a sharp climbing hairpin.
The ST1300 will pull away without lugging on level ground from 60 in top.
I was on that Mt Cootha ride with Missus Biggles back in the cabin, and we sang up the hill in 3rd at the speed limit they stuck on there of 50 kph. And Missus B
isn't a Twiggy clone (for those who remember that British model). If you never heard of Twiggy, you can easily imagine why she got the name.
To cap it off, I only use 91 octane. That's just to scandalise the $1.65 per litre drinkers.
