Just the start of a bad season to come unfortunately. What riles me up is too many are started by criminals and ciggy-flickers.

Thanks for asking AJ - 1 bad fire remains and is not under control yet. Just to the southeast of Brissie.

So far no homes/lives lost.

It's got me buggered why they decide to back burn when the gum trees in the back yard are howling and bending over a fair way due to the wind! What do they expect will happen??   :|||| :||||

Is this some sick form of JOB CREATION??         :cuss

They dont look out the window, if the weather forcast says cool, and zero to light breeze, then they go light fires..

Dunno???? I just spent the morning with the bloke who runs the show here on the Gold Coast and he really knows his stuff. They work really closely with the Queensland Fire Services.
He explained most stuff to me and how a whole heap of burns had been postponed because of the wind and bad weather conditions, like the increase of temperature Ect.
Ended up having a heap of respect for the guys involved in it and in the next week or 2,  I am being taken out to see how they do it from the morning brief to the finish.

My uncle (another ST rider, was at the Esk RTE) is pretty high up in Brisbane Forest Park management and has been working on the co-ordination of the backburning over the past few weeks around Brisbane. The issue is that it's a fine line to walk between a successful burn and a wildfire. These guys have been battling bureacracy for years and only recently have been getting some ability to do controlled burns. They're all smart blokes with up to 40+ years experience.

You can't just burn anytime because if the conditions aren't right (eg. humidity too high) the fire won't spread properly and will take too much work to keep going. So too if it's too dry then it can get out of hand. It's a very scientific strategic process worked out in collaboration with the weather bureau and the fireys.

Certain sections of society think all fire is bad, and don't realise that Australia has been managed by fire for 40 000+ years. Unfortunately it all burns eventually (lightning, pyros etc.) and if it hasn't been burned in a while it goes up like a bomb and people die.

Your right Brett, they use to do fire reductions years ago, but the greens put a stop to that. I have. Friend who lives in the high country and he said that the leaf litter was a meter high. Then black Saturday hit and we know what happened then.he now burns off to keep his place clear. It has worked for many years, tell the greenies to bugger off and we all will be better.

The Greens have a lot to answer for RE destruction of native habitat. The whole country wasn't rainforest no matter how many tourists it pulls in.
