I can vouch for that - my inlaws live there (above Short Beach). I'm thinking of doing this to catch up but I'm likely to make it an weekender with the inlaws.

Watch out for roos - LOTs of them particularly on the otherside of Katanning.

Hi STRay, I am thinking of doing this although new to long distance scene and need to talk over with family first..... Is it down and back in one day?
I guess I need to join up there as well to get a far rider number too...
Who else from here is going and does anyone want to ride together?

G'Day Pezzz,
                     No, it is not necessarily down and back in one day. The only way to "join up " and get your FarRider number  is to actually do a FarRide! Have look over their website at www.farriders.com it explains everything much better.
                    The first thing you will need to do is go to the FarRiders website and register for the ride. The "entry level " ride is 1000k in 24Hrs, 4 of these are required to be completed before you can register for the slightly longer ones. Or you you can do an IBA ride and have it certified. For this particular one, most will do the return trip in the one day as it will give them the 1000k easily. Then there are others that take time off work and stay the night, in Bremer Bay by either doing the 1000k before the checkin time or doing most of it Friday arvo/night, pitching camp somewhere and finishing in the morning. Then there are idiots like me, who do rides that come completely from left field!!  :fp

If you need help with the planning feel free to PM me and I will give you a hand, that part is half the fun!  :CB--

All these rides are a "Ride to Eat " format where we all make our own way there and do our own planning to make the checkin window, however some do like to ride in groups, so keep an eye out on this thread as there may be others looking to ride together as well. I may already be having at least one other OzSTOC rider as company for the return leg on Saturday from Bremer Bay back to Perth.

You don't have to officially do a FarRide to go along just to see what it is like. I did about 3 before I decided I may as well formally join up, as I was unsure whether the formality thing was for me - past experience with clubs is that the more rules and regulations come along, the less fun it can be after a while, and the more of a drag it is to organise things.

Trying to work out why Google tries to send me through Albany to get to Bremer Bay?
Anyone know condition of road through Borlen? Saves 60km but Google says adds 10 minutes to overall time :O

Hi folks,

Firstly Pezzz - welcome to the club - I've been flat out at work I barely get a chance to read the site let alone post...

Secondly, It's a sealed bitumen road from Perth all the way to Bremer. Quickest trip is ~490km:
- Albany Hwy;
- Left/east at Woodanilling turn off (Robinson Rd) about 24km south of Arthur River;
- Katanning;
- Gnowangerup;
- Borden;
- Boxwood Hill;
- Bremer.

The Borden road was resurfaced a while ago. No problem there, and quite a nice part of the bush.

Unfortunately, work is keeping me in town so I won't be heading down to visit the outlaws - maybe a blessing in disguise! ;-)

Enjoy the trip - looks like great weather for a ride.

Cheers, Rob.
PS. Fill up at the BP which is on the right as you enter the town - not the general store (you'll save squids).

Trying to work out why Google tries to send me through Albany to get to Bremer Bay?

That is why most riders don't rely on googlemaps to plan their rides!  :think1

It is much more accurate to use the mapping software that comes with most GPS units, although with them all being Euro or USA there will always be little "glitches "  :|||| :||||
