I relocated my universal waterproof GPS mount today.
I originally mounted it with sturdy 3M double sided tape to my HeliBar cover.
It has never detached from that position over the past 3 years and I had a safety cord just in case, tethered to the cable stay
The problem with the centre location was it was a bit awkward getting the key in and out as well as a bit far for me to see fine detail on the screen using my TomTom XL, so...
I fabricated a piece of aluminium mounted under the 2 bolts that secure the front brake assembly and an additional bolt thru the outer bolt of the master cylinder cover.
Ideally it would be better to mount the GPS on the clutch side so as to be able to use it while on the go, but I didn't want to relocate my heated grip controller and iphone remote....
I realize other well made RAM mount holders are available as well as shelves for the ST1300 but they are clunky looking in my opinion
(btw, www.Jhonyappleseed.com.au (http://www.Jhonyappleseed.com.au) has a great range of RAM mounts)
I will test ride on the weekend

Cunning attachment to beat vibration on a long arm like that. :wink1

:thumbs nice work there Zev :thumbs

It looks like a great bit of work mate, nicely done :thumbsup

Thanks! :thumb

nicely done, love the watch

Undoubtedly the final version will be painted an appropriate shade of black?

Relocation as I did want left handed operation and the GPS was obstructing my R mirror view...
a simple and sturdy option.
-
I like the LED tape inside the mirrors
Are they hooked up to indicators , park lights or separate switch ?

Hi Gavo,
The LED strips are amber colored and connected to the turn signal, works very well as a reminder to cancel after turning and visible for others to see :thumbs

I have modified my home made Universal GPS mount as it was not exactly at the angle i wanted and had a bit of vibration.
Instead of a Vertical mounting position (using flat aluminium) for the ball I used 90 deg angle aluminium and achieved a Horizontal mount.
Now I have better range of vertical and lateral movement as well as solid stability with no vibration.
as always, pictures explain better than words

Despite my best efforts i can't get the home made GPS mount to stop vibrating. It's only slight, but enough to make it difficult to see at some speeds
I purchased the RAM mount from "Johnny Appleseed” 92 St Kilda road, St Kilda , they are the dealers for RAM mount and many other GPS accessories.
The hardware is very sturdy and well made, not flimsy plastic.
I have bolted it to the clutch reservoir and applied heavy duty, double sided, 20 kg rated 3M tape.
They do have a flat base mount that would fit completely over the clutch reservoir cover, but it was $45 and out of stock.
I have the universal GPS waterproof case mounted to the RAM ball and will trial it this way.
A custom made clip in / clip out (but not weatherproof) holder is available for my TOMTOM XL for $20 if needed.
I added the invoice with SKU numbers to make it easy for you all, as well as the website below! :thumbs

Note to Brock, as mentioned above...

I have some assorted ram mount bits and pieces (which I have accumulated in recent years through a trial and error process). If you want to try before you buy, you (and anyone else in Melbourne, or even interstate but I don't think the postage charges would make it viable) is welcome to a short-term loan.
If you are interested, send me a PM, we can exchange 'phone no.s and make some loan arrangements.
