Title: Good day all from the other half of the globe.
Post by: AndyD on February 02, 2023, 04:01:20 AM
Being the owner of a few St11's and an OzSTOC cap it's time to put stylus to screen. Joined the forum several years ago and thought I'd posted a joining intro, but appears not to be the case, so here goes.

Have been a member of STowners forum since I picked up my first ST, a used 1100, in 2003.  Sold that one at 180k and then collected more.  My go to bike for cross country and IBA runs mainly because I can set them up as I want them and nothing too complex on them, apart from the ABS/TC. Just very attached to the 1100.  Had one with 320k on it and nothing major ever replaced, good bikes eh!

Also fortunate to have a few other steeds, all carb bikes apart from the Tiger.  Apart from the ST my other favorite are my Nortons, one of which I've owned since new in 1971. Covid has been a godsend in that as I could not travel I spent a couple of years in the shed rebuilding Nortons that I've had waiting for me for decades.

Borders opened up last year and back on the road again.  Off to NZ this week for a ride with fellow OzStoc members, Neil and Val, and I hope to get to the Pukekohe Classic races if the track and the rain are in check and after on to OZ for a few weeks and hopefully will fit in the Phillip Island races and I believe a RTE.
Is that enough of an intro?

See you guys.
Andy

Welcome AndyD. You may like to add your age and location? Are your distances in kms or miles?
I just spent some time in the South Island of NZ, if you get to Invercargill be sure to visit ehayes, a hardware store for of bikes on diplay.

My info duly amended Glen.
Bike miles were in kilometers and I'm in S.W. Canada.
Visited Invercargil in 2020, but missed the Munroe by one week, as it turned out that was OK as Invercargil was washed out and cut off due to the major flooding they had in the South island tip.
Hoping to get to part of the classic races this weekend in Pukekohe NZ if they keep running after the major floods last weekend in Auckland area and more rain due.  hey ho you take what you get, better than the snow we had last week.

Thanks Andy. There area lot of us on OzSTOC in our early seventies. My wife and I did the standard West coast Tour of Canada and Alaska in 2015 and loved it. We retruned to Canada in Dec 2017 and did the train trip from Vancouver to Toronto. Theresa is an American and she has relatives near Chicago and Nth Carolina so we get to the US regularly but really need to see some more of Canada. Sounds like you are familiar with the flight across the Pacific as well. Enjoy your trip this year.

Average age is creeping up on ST owners as well of course, no younguns there that I am aware off. Only to be expected.
western Canada is just superb scenery, but limited paved roads unlike the USA, as soon as you are on to Washington or Idaho state roads it's like winning the lottery, bliss. Now forest service roads in BC are another matter, can go for thousands of klm without hitting pavement, but can sure get somewhat isolated at times!  Went to Newfoundland in July and met some wonderful natives, but was really happy to get back into BC. Can only take so many potholes and limited vistas.

.... on to OZ for ... an RTE.

Welcome to OzSTOC Andy.  Yes. the RTE is at the Pig & Whistle at Trentham East, details here - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15021.msg1359967#new, (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=15021.msg1359967#new,) Brenda & you have already been added to the list of attendees.

Looking forward to seeing you both at the RTE, especially as it's an Aussie tradition for the newbie to buy the first round of drinks (I hope Neil has explained that to you).

Good day Michael, how's life?  I was under the impression that it was the inviter who buys the first round and possibly the last round, did I get this wrong?   :beer
See you in a few weeks if we survive the New Zealand monsoons.
