Powerlet plug wiring

I've installed a powerlet plug on my ST1300,  can anyone help with how to wire it in.  I've run the wiring to under the seat so far. Just need help with where and how to tap into power. Pics or a website would also be great.

First question you need to ask youself is ... do I want it switched with the ignition key or on all of the time? The latter is easy, but could result in a drained battery if you're not careful. The former is best, but requires a relay and extra wiring.

Have you thought of buying the Quartet Harness... plenty of options for switched or unswitched power and simple to install!!!

Under the LH side panel are all the relays on the 1300.
Look at the descriptions on the covers and on the fuse closest to the centre on the bike is one marked aux.

Get a fine screwdriver and push the terminal out and solder an extra wire to the terminal, reinstall the terminal.
With that extra wire you can run it up, under the seat. This becomes the switching for a relay.


I, personally have all power sockets live, as I unplug GPS, ipod etc to conceal while away from my bike.

A custom lead from the quartet harness would be the best way to go. I could make one , but I would need to pull some ones 1300 apart :grin :grin :grin

Having had a look at the Quarter Harness Installation and the associated documentation, I found it a little difficult to understand the pin-outs from the various plugs, so I took the liberty of re-writing the Pin-out document provided by Mellow of ST-Owners.com to be a little more understandable. It is attached, but still does not contain pin-numbers for individual pins, so the wire colour code is used as the identifying parameter.

Also be aware of the fact that some wire colours change as you go from the bike side of the Quartet Harness to the actual harness itself. There are, on the bike side, two wires with the same colour code (red with a black stripe) but each has a different source, one is un-switched +12v and the other is +12v from the 'Accessories' position of the ignition switch...so be wary of this.

This is a good way of connecting into the fuse block, just need to make sure it is installed the correct way so the new tail is fused.

Glen, If you have not yet fitted the Harness could you do Brock and me a favour, can you please do me (and him) a sketch (mud-map ) of each of the connectors, which shows the pin position and what colour wire goes to each pin, please. This also includes the 9 pin connector to the bike end of the quartet harness as well, please. There is a strong possibility that we could reproduce the harness at a fraction of the cost of the Honda one but without knowing what the pin assignments are that is impossible, and you're the only bloke I know who has one that isn't fitted to a bike!!. Also could you measure the length of the complete harness, just roughly.  Thanks mate!  :grin :thumbsup
