Title: SA RTE Suggestions for 2024
Post by: Bodø on October 02, 2023, 04:50:00 AM
I guess it's about time to to get this rolling.  I've got a list of places I would like to check out but here's a few.

I went to the Old Barn yesterday.  They have an open mic on the first sunday from march until december.  It wasn't too loud to prevent a chat whilst having lunch.  The lunch menu isn't that big but bigger than the pizza choices we had at Cadell.  I'd be happy to go here again.

I'd also pencilled in the Eureka Hotel at Redhill after they had a refurbishment sign on it when I went there earlier in the year but dropped in last weekend to find it is still closed.

* No animals were hurt in making this list but I did steal some of Williamson's dots.  :nahnah

Thanks for kicking this off Bodo, and  I suggest that we also consider revisiting some old favorites.

Pretoria Hotel at Mannum
Finnis General Store
Coopers Alehouse at Wallaroo is worth a revisit
Naracoorte
Goolwa Coorong Cafe

  • Royal Hotel Crystal Brook

You nearly had me, until I checked Google Maps.

.... revisiting some old favorites.

We have only revisited two venues twice, since I started attending VIC RTEs, these were the Tungumah Hotel at Tungumah (d'oh!), and the Reefton Hotel at McMahons Creek.  I don't include Blackwood (a VIC RTE and a NatRally RTE) or Mansfield (different pubs), but someone may be along soon to correct me.

The VORTEC tries to find new place to spread the love, and $$.  With many more towns than SA, it's been easy so far.  Although next year, there will be some revisits on the Royal Tour Event.  And now I'm very pleased with myself for inventing another RTE.

If Edenhope and Rainbow are a bit much for you I would expect any South Australian venue to be.  (http://www.footballnews.com.au/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

If it's not too late I'd like to throw the Tavern On Turton (Point Turton, Yorkes) into the mix.

Can the SA people give some thought to destinations for our 2024 RTE's.   I'll then compile and post a draft list.

I personally like checking out new places, which is why when I've thrown out suggestions in years gone by and at the top of this thread (Sedan aside) they are places I have never been too.  I guess it's a lottery but the only venue I've left not content with was Yongala (and I didn't chose it) but think you have to try things.

That said, I await to see what others have to say.

March is locked in with the 2024 NatRally at Mansfield, as is May for a Balranald Tri-State gathering.

Here's a draft list to think about, but in no particular order.

Mansfield NatRally (March)
Caltowie
Balranald Tri-State (May)
Roxby Downs
Finnis
Tavern on Turton
Cradock
Pretoria at Mannum
Mt Mary
Coopers Alehouse at Wallaroo
Robertstown
Royal Hotel at Crystal Brook
Pier 28 at Clayton Bay

Which ones were those?  I'm intrigued because I checked, although Booleroo Centre is now saying temporarily closed.

You mentioned Cradock twice, unless you meant Carrieton for one of them.  Caltowie, Cradock and Mount Mary were rocking when I rode past them this year.  Those three and Blyth were on my short-short list.

Sad to say that the Traveling Duck Café at Jabuk has decided to permanently close stating "It’s been a long and painful journey and Insurance has still let us down over and over.  Therefore it is with a grateful heart for all the wonderful customers and friends we made along the way that we have to announce the closure for good".

I'd like to put Coorong Cafe on the list, but if the weather is not good, it won't make for a pleasant experience. The fallback would be the Islander Tavern. Both on Hindmarsh Island

There are some good suggestions here.

Sails at Clayton Bay has been renamed Pier 28 and is expected to reopen on Dec 23rd.
I'd like to see it included in the mix.

Already done Langers.  :thumb   I've already Pier 28 in the mix that I'm preparing for 2024.  Sorry for the delay in getting the 2024 RTE's posted but I've been really busy.

:bl11.  Here’s a couple of old ones but good ones!
                           Overnight at the Robe hotel.
                            BYO lunch at Narrung campground
Lunch at Morgon cafe or pub.    :beer

Overnight at the Robe hotel.

Robe was good.  It's the best schnitzel I've had at an RTE.

Personally, I'm keen to see a few more new locations (although the Narrung campground was a ripper and I'd be very happy to go back to that) and overnighters are always good fun.
Cheers ... Mark

Same here, the old locations are fantastic, but would like to see new ones.

Hopefully, now I'll be able to travel & do some of the more distant ones.

VIC RTE destinations have only be duplicated two or three times in 10 years, just saying ....
