Safe.....and fun
« on: April 21, 2012, 02:39:38 PM »
Hi Fellas
A lot has already been said about the ozstoc rally elsewere, but I thought a comment on the attitude and skills of the riders who attended might be worth a word or two......
I gave up on group rides a long time ago. I got frustated with the boy racer mentality that often seems to surface on group rides, and was often witness to some spectacularly poor riding. So,I was a little apprehensive about the group ride to Tarana,so I deliberately placed myself at the back of the group.
What a pleasant surprise to find myself in a group who knew how to ride, had nothing to prove, and showed just how much fun a group can be when the riders are experienced and safe. I still wont participate in big groups in my neck of the woods.....But you guys showed that it can be done well, safe and still be fun.
Cheers
Laurie

That's very true Laurie. It was a good ride, and thanks for the compliments (must remember to keep an eye on the road in future)
Like you, I'd given the group ride thing away for similar reasons, and now only go off with mates who ride like I prefer to, so Pat and I enjoyed the day too

Agreed. I Had a ball. Due mainly to the riders. I don't usually ride in groups either, but when I do, I've found myself looking into the rear view mirror all the time.
Not on this ride though, it was very refreshing and enjoyable

I ride my own ride. If people want to pass, then they can pass, I will NOT be pressured into riding beyond my means.

It has been mentioned elsewhere, but I have to agree that there was this sense of serenity being in such a group of calm sensible riders.

It was something beyond a mere sum of its parts.

Teela commented on how sensible everyone was, she had been pillion on a couple of boy racer rides, hence it took some work to convince her to come on the national rally, she has converted so far that she wants her own bike now  :thumb

Must be the bikes, I reckon.
They know how to behave in crowds.
But seriously, seems the people who graduate to ST's probably have a bit of experience and unless the dreaded adrenalin gets pumped then the ride pace is fast enough yet still well within the riders and bikes abilities to see and control what's going on around them.
In all the rides and meeting other owners I have only come across two who reckoned they were the duck's nuts.
Never under estimate the predictability of stupidity.
