I'm looking at the German battery operated ones, although they're only good for 3.5 hours on full heat. Works out around $120 with postage from Europe on special.

I have just ordered a pair of Epic 2, battery powered, heated gloves from Zarkie, along with the 12 Volt charger. I expect that they will get a good test on the Border Run, so I'll post a review when they have had a decent try out.

They heat the outside of the hand, which means they are very compatible with heated grips.
Very good sizing info- important, as we have found!
Not cheap, but at 2:00 AM and 2o the price is soon forgotten. :grin

My Epic-2 Gloves turned up today, around 24 hours from submitting the order, so great service from Scott at Zarkie. The fit, ordered according to the Zarkie sizing chart is perfect (Phew!) :thumb

I've been looking at heated grips vs heated gloves too. After much research, I'm leaning more towards the heated gloves. Thanks to StinkyPete's advice a couple of weeks ago, I'm about to order the Zarkies. I just can't decide whether to go for the battery operated gloves or plug in variety. Zarkies have a special on, 'Buy one for $220 and you get the second (smaller sized) pair for $110.'

I have achieved the following real world run times with the Epic2 battery powered heated gloves
Recharge Time.... 4-5 hrs with the 240volt charge.
I purchased, but have not tested the additional 12 volt accessory charger that I purchased
High Heat setting.... 2hrs 20 minutes (seriously hot!)
Medium Heat Setting.... 4hrs 45 minutes
Low Heat Setting.... Not yet tested
Heat is to the back of the hands and fingers.

Great ... so I start looking at $200 gloves ... next thing I am looking at $160 pants liners, $200 gloves, $89 heated in soles, and $309 jacket liner ....
I hate being a motorcyclist .... well my bank does anyway ...

How long did it take before they contacted you? I contacted them almost a week ago now, and still no response. No phone number to ring either. :|||| Starting to worry about how reliable they are. :H

I've had great service from Scott Weeks at Zarkie. As soon as I received the gloves, I charged them and ran a test to determine the real world run time on a couple of the settigns. I found that one of the batteries was crook, and Scott had another in my letterbox within 36hrs. Any e.mail that I sent was answered by Scott within one working day.

would you mind giving us an update on the Epic 2.0 gloves?
With Victoria having a real winter this year I will either re-install the heated glover liners I bought in the UK in the 80s or buy something like these gloves.
Would you mind answering the following:
1. Is it practical to use the gloves on the lowest setting behind the ST faring? How long would they last on the lowest setting?
2. Are the gloves a good quality in terms of fit and feel? Do you use them even when you are not using the heating?
3. Are the gloves a true size? I tend to need XXLs with most.
4. Any recommended farkles? Carry extra batteries etc?

Can you hang off until after the Swan Reach RTE and I'll give you a real review, based upon some riding in what I anticipate will be cold conditions?

Sizing info is described on the web site and is determined by measuring around the knuckles
My gloves are a good fit, based upon that sizing
Quality looks pretty good
They can be worn without being turned on.
The Epic 2 is a full waterproof winter glove and thus is fairly bulky like any full winter glove, but is also pre-curved for motorcycle use.
I bought the 12 volt charger as well as the std 240volt charger
It would be possible to use the gloves intermittently, to extend battery life.
Recharge time seems to be around 5 hrs on 240v

Because this idiot from FNQ goes riding at night.. and its quite often down under 5 degrees here in winter, and still down to 10 or so at times in summer when you head west... I also like to head south :-) I've started collecting stuff for the perth trip next year.. lots of night riding in the middle of nowhere in the middle of aus.. and i'm a sook :-)

Venture Epic2 Heated Gloves - Review
I bought a pair of these from Zarkie http://www.zarkie.com.au/ (http://www.zarkie.com.au/) a couple of weeks ago. The Epic2 are a thick and well padded winter glove with rechargable battery and heating elements on the back of the hands and down the back or outside of the fingers. They appear to be a well made pair of gloves with a decent length cuff, and an elastic closure at the entry to the cuff. The palm and inner side of the fingers is leather and the remainder of the gloves is a woven artificial fibre. While they claim to be waterproof, I have not under taken the Australian Road Rider test for waterproof, which requires the gloves to be worn on the hands and stuck in a bucket of water to the wrists for 30 seconds. I must say that I have never found a pair of waterproof gloves that remain waterproof in a decent wet
My first part of the assessment was to test run and recharge times to get some real world data. Here's the results:
Recharge Time.... 4-5 hrs with the 240volt charge.
High Heat setting.... 2hrs 20 minutes (Seriously hot!)
Medium Heat Setting.... 4hrs 45 minutes
Low Heat Setting.... 7hrs 30 minutes (Claimed 37 degrees)
Yesterday I used them on the SA RTE to Swan Hill, which was about a 300km round trip. I was a fairly cool day with temps as low as 6 degrees when we left home, and it peaked at around 11 degrees. I did the entire run with the heated grips turned off.
I wore the gloves all the time that I was travelling, with them set on the lowest heat setting of 37 degrees. Because this is close to body heat, the gloves did not feel overtly warm, but prevented my hands from getting cold all day, and I was very comfortable in conditions that would usually have given me numb fingers from the cold. A short burst on medium heat and I could feel the extra warmth on the back of my hands, and I did not use the hottest setting.
On the back of each glove is soft button that toggles through the heat settings, with red, orange and green illumination to show the setting that is in use. The bulk of the glove fingertips made it difficult to press the button while riding, and because the indicator illumination is so feint, it was impossible to judge the colour in sunlight, and needed to be shielded to be visible.
The gloves were a very snug and comfortable fit on my hands, but I found the thumbs to be around 1cm too long. This made using the indicator switch for left turns clumsy and difficult, as I couldn't easily get my thumb into the gap between the indicator and screen height adjuster to pull the indicator button to the left. This is more of an issue of my physiology than a problem with the gloves.
At $229 they are not cheap, but I'm pretty pleased with their fit and performance. The loss of dexterity while wearing thick winter gloves was a bit of a nuisance, and as a consequence, I see them being most useful as cold weather touring gloves, rather than something that I'd wear while riding around the city. However, as they mould and wear into the shape of my hands, I expect that fit and flexibility will improve, as all gloves seem to get more and more comfortable with age, right up until they are ready for the bin.

Similar to us yesterday but on the way back home I could feel the temp drop between Morgan and Burra and drop further between Burra and home. At one point I rested my right hand on the cam cover for a few minutes and let the heat from the motor warm the glove up. For the few times that I need to run in the cold resting either hand on the motor is enough for me.
Had I run a more leisurely pace (95-100 k/h) back home the chill factor may not have been as bad as the 120 k/h pace I was maintaining when possible.

My 12v gear from Zarkie arrived but just after my last chance for a ride for a week, so there is a review coming as soon as I can get out of the house into the cool weather. I'm planning a IBA1600 early next month, which will mean a midnight departure into the cold so i'll know exactly how good they are then. :13Candy

I gave the gloves and heated jacket a good run today.. Left home at 1am straight into the cold..
Jacket - awesome.. Even at 0 degrees air temp, it was toasty warm at the 2nd hottest setting, gloves I had on hot and at times I felt they were struggling, but they did the job well and made the 7 hours of freezing cold temps quite pleasant..
These were powered by the bike, so never ran out of power 😁

I saw the Zarkie ads running on Facebook late laST Friday night and decided to check out their website for prices. I decided to put an order in for their 12v GT Touring gloves $239 and the 12v GT heated jacket liner $259, without the remote controller.
Tuesday morning they arrived and as suggeSTed I tried them on for size. I found the sizing to be good. I ordered a medium in Gloves and a small in the jacket liner. The sleeves in the liner could be a little longer. I, like Pete, think the thumbs a little long/bulky on the gloves.
I then went and connected the wiring loom to the battery terminals, and as STranger was on the charger it took all of 5 mins, and another 5 to put the plaSTic back on. I put the jacket liner on under my thermal jumper and put the gloves on and plugged them into the connectors inside the sleeves, plugged them into the bike and STarted STranger, turned the jacket onto the high heat setting then each of the gloves. After about maybe 30 seconds I could feel the warmth heating up in all 3 items. After maybe 5 mins , when I was feeling warm all over my arms and hands the jackets feature of reducing the heat to medium kicked in. the gloves STayed on high.
I will get out for a ride to see how they perform with wind chill, but from reading STinky Pete's report I'm sure they will pass the teST.
I think I may even purchase the GT pant liners when I have saved up again. Winter riding will never be the same, :H
I haven't needed to contact 'Scott' so I cant comment on that.
Zarkie / venture heat have a lot of good reviews written about them so I'm sure I'll be happy with such my lateST farkle purchase, only time will tell. ;-*

Goodonya Johnny. I also hate being cold, and feel it more these days. My own heated gloves from Zarkie are fantastic in the cold weather.

laST night I decided to go out in the cold 6c, and try out my new purchase of Zarkie heated gear,. I took the winter liner out of my cuSTom Ozstoc jacket, left the rain liner in though. I wore the Zarkie GT liner under my thermal top and plugged the Zarkie GT heated Gloves into the sleeve connectors, STarted STranger and turned on all the switches to the high red level. before I had backed the bike out of the garage I could feel the heat covering my back, neck and arms, the gloves were a little slower heating.
I went up over Razorback towards Camden, BUT after dimming my high beam a headlight globe blew.. damnn I was toasty warm :H in all the gear, but I couldn't see, not only from the headlight, my muST wear glasses kept fogging over, even with my visor open, so I turned around and headed for home.
I have to remember to unplug before I get of STranger, but the connector pulls apart with minimal pressure if one forgets,
After that little teST ride I had one other hmmmmm thing I found slightly annoying, the glove switches on the high RED setting are very bright and diSTracting, that is easily fixed by going down to the green or amber after the heat is there.. its the little things... :Whipped
Overall I think it is my beST 'winter farkle" I give them ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ :grin
