G'day everyone,
This is a little mod/adjustment for the people that have the standard ST1300 Seats.
It's easy, requires no tools and won't cost anything but will make the rider's seat more comfortable :runyay
This is achieved by making the rider's seat flatter thereby stopping it from sloping towards the tank so much and making it easier to move around on.

So let's get started :thumbsup
Remove the seats by unlocking the latch above the left pannier

Inside you will find a metal tab that you can move.
Hold the tab towards the front of the bike to unlock the rear seat.
Lift up the rear of seat and slide it free of the front seat. (The latch can then be locked back down)

Next remove the front seat.
* Note: You will find a plastic tongue on the bottom of the rider's seat that sticks out, this slides under a metal rod near the tank.

* Note: You will also find a plastic pocket on each side of the seat towards the front that latches onto a metal piece that sticks out just under each side of the tank.

The metal rod can be moved to three heights
(For this mod we can use ONLY the middle or the top, Middle for a lower seat height and Top for a higher seat height)

* For this demonstration I have set it to the top.
Place the seat back on the bike
Make sure to get the plastic tongue to slide under the metal rod.
Also make sure that the plastic pockets don't latch on to the metal pieces on each side of the tank.

Now that the seat is on have a look at the back of it.
You will see three stepped areas in the plastic and a metal hoop on each side that should be sliding into the lowest step.
(* If you have chosen the middle setting on the rod near the tank, the hoops should be sliding into the middle step)

Lift the rear of the seat so that the hoops are just below the steps.
Push the seat forward and force it to drop down onto the next step up. (Make sure that the seat is still unlatched on each side of the tank)
* As can be seen in the pic below I have gone from the lowest step to the middle.
(This makes the rear of the seat sit lower then the front thereby making the whole seat flatter)

Now place the rear seat back on to the bike.
(* The rear seat has a plastic tongue like the front seat, but it slides above the metal rod attached to the rear of the rider's seat.)
Now that the seats are back on the bike here are some comparison shots.
(It's not visually much of a change but it is noticeable when you sit on it :thumbsup)

A very clear explanation of something I'd heard about years ago but never managed to do. I know now the reason I couldn't get it to work was those "flaps" at the front preventing the seat sliding forward that one centimetre that's needed.
So this is the poor man's Russell Day-Long seat! :thumbs

Makes seat much better and you don't slide forward as much

I just looked at mine and the PO had achieved the same thing by punching out the white plastic that the hoop sat on. This meant the seat was lowered at the back while still enabling the front flaps to be engaged.
All fine, but it's obviously only reversible by filling the hole with some sort of goolly-gumps.

This was an awesome mod that was shown to me a few years ago and served me well right up until I got the aftermarket seat WOW:
I only just thought about posting this up after talking to Draco the other day about seats. (I really should have done this some time ago :fp)

when I had the Grey GhoST I bumped the rear loops with a rubber mallet so they would reST into the next slot on the seat adjuSTment .......worked well

Yes was shown this some time back by shiney, Much improved comfort, A must with bar risers.

When I first started to do things on the ST by myself I found it very hard (or impossible) to find guides that were easy to follow (the only guides I could locate required a fair understanding before they were of any use), so I decided to do some of my own whenever I was working on the bike :thumb
Some of the guides have managed to help a number of people and have been improved with tips or tricks from others that have posted after the guide (I add them into the guide to help in the future :thumbsup)

Top marks ! Thanks Shiney. No tools, no cost, took me all of 3 minutes in my office clothes before I left for work, didn't even get my hands dirty. It's removed that sliding-forward tendency. Much more betterish.

Stinky Pete explained this to me some time ago but I could never work out why I still felt like I was sliding forward - turns out that I was on bottom setting and it obviously doesn't work there. Thanks again for clear and concise explanation - now for a ride to test it!!

Loving the ride even more now, though i mght need to do the reverse to the passenger seat to try and stop Mrs Hooda falling asleep. :thumb
