Led indicator Problems
« on: November 03, 2015, 05:45:35 PM »
 :hatwave :hatwave
Good evening everyone.
Today I had LED globes installed on the ST1300.
LED Tail lights and indicator globes at the rear.
LED In the front.
At the rear 2 x 4 wire resistors were installed but when the fronts were installed with or without the resistors
the indicators flash much faster than allowed.
As a stop gap the standard globes were put back in place.
All indicators are working but without the LED globes in the front.
Here's hoping that someone has come across this before and really has a fix or is able to direct me to someone that does.
Many thanks in advance

Thanks Alan,
The mechanic has said that it appears to be a hiccup when the resistor is installed.
I did ask about the relay and was told that that isn't the problem.
The globes used are T10 wedge 12V 5/20 dual filament on the tail lights and single filament 12V 20

replace the flasher relay with an electronic one, and the problem will be solved.

Hello again Brock,
Is there any difference between electronic and or LED Flasher Unit.

What Brock said.

The electronic flasher cans us a timer circuit, whereas the original flasher cans use a bi-metallic strip (2 metals bonded together with different thermal coefficients of expansion) and the current draw bends the strip breaking the circuit. Once the circuit is broken the strip cools and remakes the circuit.

The LEDs don't draw enough current to make the strip bend far enough away for a slower flash rate so it doesn't have so far to return when it cools resulting in the faster flash rate.

The upside is you instantly know you have a blown incandescent bulb.

Cheers,
Gary

GOF54,

I suspect the LED ones are also electronic. I'm curious if there is a price difference?
Cheers,
Gary

I think the electronic are a bit more expensive, but sre very stable and reliable.

Hello again to the guys that were able to offer an idea on which way to solve the above problem.
The fix was a 2 pin electronic flasher unit from Honda as per Brock's suggestion.
Never seen one this shape before in any accessory store but then Honda do have different from the norm H4 globes for their headlights.
Happy chappy now so thanks once again all.

Hey Gadget,

sorry cannot elaborate on what the costs were because of all the time taken yesterday
there was no charge for the electronic flasher unit.
Sorry Gary.
