Wanted - "Summer" windscreen
« on: June 26, 2015, 05:31:10 PM »
OK, I've had my ST1300 for over a month now and, being the non-ABS model, I've found the windscreen height is driving me crazy. I'm 172cm (5 foot 7 in the old scale) and I'm finding the top of the windscreen is just under my line of sight; fine for distance touring but distracting enough when trying to concentrate on the brake lights of the car in front in heavy traffic, &c., more so with it being fairly scratched.

If anyone's looking to sell a short screen similar to an Eagle Screens "Summer" or a California Scientific "Shorty" now or in the future, I'm interested. Happy enough to buy new, but I thought I'd ask here first in case there's an opportunity for a bit of mutual back scratching.

Is your screen fitted in the high or low position.

Low position, but being a non-motorised version, the low height was just a little too high for me. The high setting was made worse to look through by the horrible scratches in the OEM windscreen that was neglected/damaged by the previous owner.

I thought all the 1300 had electric screens....
You can always polish out the scratches.... just saying

Non-ABS don't have motorised screens. Did polish out a lot of the scratches with a big improvement, but you'd swear the previous owner had cleaned off bugs with a Steelo, so it was never going to be crystal clear again - but thanks for the tip. :thumb

I cut my screen down Blerko - maybe you could trim yours slightly - this cost me $20 and works beautifully....

I actualy know a bloke who did the Steelo on his brand new V-Strom. Realised the rror of his ways then chose to balance the job up by attacking all the front of that once new bike....I kid you not.
Its now habbit with the silly bugger. Next was his GS and just a few weeks back he bought home a nice new black 1050 Tiger...I guess it got dirty, I'll leave you to work out the rest :fp

You still use that screen Diesel?

Ive been tempted to start trimming this one a bit at a time to rid myself of a little wind noise on the helmet. Seems I'm just on that all out or all in helmet to screen ratio.

Yeah Gatey - have it packed away for winter, and usually 'tour' with the bigger screen - but she'll go back on around mid-late Sep.

I find the OzSTOC Jacket - or ANY ventilated jacket for that matter - works really well with the extra airflow that the small screen affords. Had a few nakey bikes in my time and don't mind being out in the breeze either.      :thumbs

Go for a ride with NO windscreen Gatey and make sure that you are happy with the outcome. I was happy because the cut down screen took the tumbling air (turbulence) from my helmet height down to my torso,  leaving my melon out in unobstructed  (therefore relatively quiet) air.

Cheers, Diesel
