Title: Checking in and saying G'aday
Post by: niceperson709 on November 04, 2018, 12:50:37 PM
Hi Guys and thanks for letting me join your company

I am an older guy who is basically retired and although I have not ridden bikes since my son was born 14 years ago. Instead to satisfy my need for a bit of driving pleasure I first turned to building a Locost clubman and more recently I have been driving a 59 Triumph Herald Coupe which I have been driving  for more than a year now, first with its original engine and then with Toyota Corolla 4K engine and 5 speed. By now I'n sure that most readers are wondering just what has brought me to this forum. Its simple really I want to use a ST1100 engine in my Herald. Others in the UK have used this engine in "7" type kit cars with good results and although my Herald is a little heavier I still expect a good result and better performance than I have had form either its original engine or the 4k with a higher redline and a sequential shift it should be a fun drive. Reverse will be made with a starter motor and a small ring gear in the prop shaft.

I had a Herald many years ago, the 1100 would certainly give it a power boost

Welcome aboard, love the thought of an 1100 in a car. I have a 63 Morris Elite that I wanted to repower, but ended up doing a rebuild on the 1600 as it thru a rod but was repairable. All done now. Good luck with the project, will be nice to see the end result. Have to come along to some RTE`s. Nigel in Mexico :wht11

Hi niceperson709.  I've seen examples of those three-wheelers with various V-engines up front.
Are you in UK or Oz?

Welcome 709. One of our members ,Yorkie, is currently restoring a  Herald.
If you haven't purchased the 1100 motor why not think about a 1500 or 1800 Goldwing motor. Or if you really want to have some fun a 12A Mazda Rotary

The GW motor won't fit the space but the ST1100 will basically its all down to the size and shape of the package  and a V4 is a more swap friendly shape

My brother is totally into Morris Minors and Morris Z's So I am familiar with the breed you have Frankly You p0robabab ly made the right choice with your car because the elite is maybe a bit heavy for a Bike engine.
Pardon my ignorance but what is a "RTE"? would I be right isn assuming its a real life meet up of some sort?

G'day and welcome aboard.

That's a very nice part of the world, and one which a number of us would enjoy hurtling through on a semi-regular basis  ;-*

Welcome.
Could be a very nice project. Why the 1100, what about a 1300cc with the fuel injection? Could possibly solve some of your problems when getting registered (Co readings, etc).

A very good question STevo ,
Mainly its because I don't want to have any sort of computer to deal with and then there is the issue of cost  I expect that I can get an 1100 engine for a great deal less than a 1300

PS. It'll be good to have one nice person on this site rather than the usual bunch of reprobates.

I don't know what a reprobate is but wouldn't be surprised if I fell into that category.

I'd put myself in that category as well, another otiose comment to build post count.

Nice part of the world Ocean View. Used to live down Cab River Road and do the D'ag - Dayboro road every weekend.

@ Stinky Pete - beat me too it. I was looking for my pics of that 3 wheeler when I scrolled past your post - well done.

Welcome aboard.
