No real ride plans for us other than to spend some time having a better look around the south coast of NSW, travel the Great Ocean Road in the opposite direction to last year and to come home via Vic High country to see the bits we missed last year and call into Canberra to see family.

St Helena to Ballarat?  Mmmm, freeway or scenic route?

Easy scenic route, something like this:

Might catch-up with a few southerners whilst enroute.

National Rally Enroute Accomodation
« Reply #30 on: January 26, 2014, 03:59:10 PM »
If any interstate (or even VIC) members are in need of accommodation in Melbourne on the Thursday night before or the Sunday night after Ballarat, a spare bed or two will be available in St Helena around 20km (as-the blackbird-flies) NE of the city centre.

On offer are two queen size beds, clean sheets, hot water, the best hot meal I can do, lock-up under cover parking, cold beer and good company.  All you would need to bring is a friendly disposition and a bunch of flowers for Mrs W (Helen).

Please send a PM if interested in taking advantage.

Yikes!  Lots of freeway there, easy, not many corners, hard to get lost or take wrong turn and fast, and that may be the idea.

But you are missing some really nice riding roads from Ballarat to Woodend to Kilmore to Yea to Bonnie Doon to Mansfield to Whitfield to Beechworth to Wodonga, eg. http://goo.gl/maps/pZRmC

It "only" adds two hours on to your to ride to Cootamundra (according to Google Maps), but I'd reckon it would only more like one hour, and a much more interesting ride.

Johnny - be sure to take this little detour from Jindabyne through Perisher Valley, Smiggins Holes, to Charlottes Pass....

Most amazing scenery and magnificent road - you'll be glad you did - TAKE CAMERA.

Interestingly, you'll also be 1.8kms higher in altitude than you were at home as well!    :wink1

Ros and Dick's planned leisurely ride from Sydney to Ballarat.  http://goo.gl/maps/Cl635
(My pillion will not stand (or sit) for the 700 or 800Km days planned by some of our  fellow OzSToc  pilgrims (most of who are Far Riding tragics.)

Wednesday 19 March - Sydney to Cootamundra NSW 396Km
Thursday 20 March - Cootamundra NSW to Echuca Vic 432Km
Friday 21 March - Echuca Vic to Ballarat Vic via Kerang and Wedderburn Vic 408Km

We anticipate arriving at Ballarat venue around 3.30pm Friday

Anyone thinking of something similar where we could possibly link up enroute let me know.

Cheers

Dick

......Wednesday 19 March - Sydney to Cootamundra NSW 396Km .......

Not sure what your accommodation options are at Cootamundra or even if your pillion could manage the extra km, but an overnight stay at Henty B & B could be worth the effort.
