ST1300 drop !
« on: October 13, 2020, 05:17:45 PM »
 :blu13

Unfortunately Ive suffered 2 slipped discs and a shoulder injury and managed to have a right side drop of my ST1300 putting into the storage container last week. It only suffered a few scratches which I requested Swann Insurance assess to see the repair cost compared to excess and due to their repair policy anything that either may be damaged (such as handle bars or something you can’t see by eye and panels that were scratched). Unfortunately due to being over 15 years old (by 1 month) it’s not an economic repair so is being paid out. Now....... it’s actually only suffered very minor scratches on the top box, pannier, exhaust and a few other areas so would be very cheap to repair myself. Being over 15 years old they don’t have to write off so they won’t. I have 2 days to make them an offer before the auction house picks it up.

Any ideas or experience of a similar thing? My bike is fairly well known having been owned by other members. I also have to remove any items that weren’t named as extras on the policy which includes cruise control and a few other things. I’ll try and post some photos later

Hope your injuries heal soon.  I can't offer you any advice on panniers though.

Once again, this is a sad moment. Sorry about this Nathan.   :'(

Now, you were not actually sitting on the bike so I am not certain that this may count as a 'Tipover'

Sorry to hear of your "Drop", and your back and shoulder injuries.   I'm guessing that it't too late to withdraw the insurance claim and do the repairs yourself.

Ironically on the day i decided to purchase another 1300 i see my old bike being written off. As per the FB post, i'll be happy to take the staintunes pipes and the seat made for my  :butt if the other bloke does not want it.Familiar with shoulder injuries. It was the reason the bike was sold.

Sorry to hear this,  I have had quite a few near misses as she is a heavy bugger.  I took my Indian cruiser out the other day I noticed the difference in moving at low speed around car parks and parking the bike was very different with the low centre of gravity.  Both fantastic bikes but very different and it doesn't take much to drop the ST.

good luck with the back and shoulder

Mate that is horrible news and sounds very painful, I hope you have a speedy recovery.

As for the bike...

When I had my accident last year the ST was written off.
Instead of buying the crashed bike at the price the insurance company wanted I worked very hard to remove all the mods before it went to auction.
I then brought it from the auction house...

If I had gone with the price the insurance company wanted in the beginning I would have kept the bike had all the time in the world to remove the mods and or repair the bike.

Regardless of what you decide I wish you all the best :thumbsup

Cheers

Just curious Shiney,   If you had your time over again would you still do it that way?
A man rides on his STeed, says “Why am I short of attention? Got a short little span of attention”.

You can call me Steve, with apologies to Paul Simon.

I saved about $500 doing this...
However, I spent a ridiculous amount of time removing the mods (I have an insane amount of them) as I had to get it done ASAP.
All the time that I wasn't at work (except for sleep) I was hard at it working on the bike, it took about a week.

It might have been better just paying the money and having an easier time of it, but experiences like this are memorable :grin
