Coming home from Adelaide on Friday evening, my windscreen started to 'sag' on the right hand side. It started to get closer to the top of the dash panel, and felt loose. I opened it up tonight, and found this.
My question is to the gentlemen who have wrecked a 1300- Does anyone have one lying around? I have welded it up and will re-fit it, but one that isn't compromised would be preferable.

I recently purchased parts from South West Motorcycle Wreckers for my St1300 as they were wrecking a 2003 St1300. It may be worth giving them a ring to see if they can assist you.

Not sure if all the 2003s had adjustable windscreens...
But that weld looks perfect. I'd get you to weld for me any day!!

Bill, mine doesn't have the electric screen, just the fixed one.
Can the electric one be retro-fitted, or is that too much of a PITA to be worth it?

I've been known to smear some silastic on my welds to tidy them up! :whistle

I have seen some welds where the only thing holding the metal was Silastic, it looked pretty though..

Can the electric one be retro-fitted, or is that too much of a PITA to be worth it?
My adjustable screen needed a fix a while back, the mechanism is a piece of art, but a poorly designed piece of art. It seems over complicated and engineered in some aspects, with what appears to be some fixes, probably due to some design failures.
I'm sure it could be retro-fitted, but as you say a PITA, the effort would probably far outweigh the benefit.

Not a good idea, Bill, it broke again today. :rofl
This time I used the torch instead of the mig, so hopefully it won't be as brittle. However, looking at it, it has been modified (by drilling extra holes) to make the screen sit up a bit higher, but at the same time it is bolted to the wrong side of the next bit of the system, so may be under a bit more stress than it should be.
I think I will contact the wrecker mentioned above, and see if I can't get a pair that haven't been got at.

No joy from the wrecker, and repair #2 lasted even less time than #1, so I plated it for the third attempt.
I have also fitted everything back where it should be, but that leaves the screen very close to the dash, and with the bars hitting it on full lock. Now I know why it was modified in the first place. To allow for an aftermarket screen that isn't really right.
Oh well, at least it gives me a good excuse now to go for a Bikequip screen.

Not that bit, Rusty. The bit that breaks is a couple of parts further down. I have put a fishplate over the recurring crack point, so it shouldn't break again. I probably should have done the same to the other side while I had it apart, but Oh well.
I actually stripped it down again this afternoon and put it back how it was, because the screen was so low that it directed the wind straight into my face.
