Maybe, bit far ahead at the moment. Should be a good ride, not too hot.

+1 STREAK.  (Put Boxhead down as a possible also.)

OK people get on board and organise yourselves to get here.  There are multiple routes you can take, plenty of opportunities for sight seeing along some wonderful country roads, country hospitality on display and good company to enjoy.

After all this is what this riding thing is all about isn't it - and getting there is a lot of the fun.

Good to see you thinking about it Alan.  Where are the reps from the other states now?

Streak, a couple of points to consider, Biloela is just under a 900 km ride from Townsville and around 500km from Brisbane. That time of year Bilo is freezing, temps drop below zero as Biloela sit on the western plains at 200 mts above sea level, more of in a bowl.

I spent 25 years in the area and worked many trains into Bilo when I was a driver.

Just some things to consider. perhaps Emu Park, Yeppoon or even Rockhampton would be a better choice.

Hi sab, we tried our best to get accomodation right through all those areas, I spent the afternoon of the phone, I rang accomodation places in emu park, yeppoon, rockhampton, grace mere, kinka beach, all of which told me either booked out or not interested in having a small group booking at that time of year

end result no one had spare accomodation for us, hence why Tackleberry, Diesel and I decided on Bilo, the days are nice, but the nights are a touch cold, but we considered that well we would be in bed by then.

Thank you for the heads up and advice though  :thumb

Hi Everyone

Unfortunately, Mrs Sabie and I will be a no go. Just under 1800 K's in a weekend is too far for us.

Had thought about the distance issue for some people may be a struggle, because we all ride for our own reasons as we all know, but one of the reasons for locking the date and location so far out, as FarRiders would also understand, is to plan your ride, and possibly turn it into a long weekend with four days instead of two.

So those thinking about the distance may be able to work on four days instead of two.  More time on the bike riding for fun is always a good thing. :hatwave

We won't confirm our attendence yet, but I have contacted the park about rates and I've estimated fuel usage for the return trip. Checked for fuel locations along the route and that's no problem. Estimated trip return cost inc accommodation $600 plus food.

We'd be looking at two 700km riding days (two nights free bush camping) and 600km on day of arrival (friday) two nights in the park leaving sunday and two more nights on the road to get back home.  It's not set in stone yet but that's how we'd do it.

Sounds like a good solid plan Alan.  The good thing about having a plan to start with is that it can be modified if you want/need to. :thumbs  Without one you got nothing to start with.

The essence of good planning, is not to set the plan in concrete as thats when things will go wrong. A good planner is always able to adjust the plan on the run.

The distance isn't an issue with us as we had a few 1600km overnighters to Perth from Karratha just to go down an visit my sis. Most people flew, we rode. This only an extra 400kms.

Done that quite a few times.......planning isn't just about fuel stops or where you're gonna spend the night it's also about managing fatigue: not just for the trip there but the return trip as well.

It is after all a Qld event so you can't really cater for any interstate interlopers.  It is July down south, enough of a reason to go North  :wht11  I just rode 800kms for a pie today, so have to get something better in Biloela  :think1

I'm a possible at this stage.  By that time of year I could probably do with a break.  Have a brother and neices and nephews in Rocky, so a detour might be in order.  :)

Looked at the maps and  :think1 I might drop in an have a gander at Cania Gorge while I'm up that way.  Driven past it a few times while I was driving company cars and always wondered what it would be like.

Time will tell.
Cheers,
Gary
