I've got a couple of these
www.sealmate.netfor times when I might notice a bit of oil or an unusual smear on my fork tubes. Well I used to use them, as I've got those neoprene slider cleaner things on, and they work really well, but prior to that, I found that often, the first sign of a leak was often just a bit of crud impinging on the seal, and the seal mate usually allowed me to remove the offending crud. They don't look like much, and would be pretty easy to make at home, but I have to say, for the purpose they are for, they often work well. Not sure about jagging a bit of metal out of the top oring seal when installed, but for almost anything else distorting the seal, they seem to often fix the problem.
