NO NO NO NO

Do not connect the power feed to the lighting circuit ever. A short will blow the lighting fuse, normal use could also blow the lighting fuse...

Not sure I agree with putting them over the grips either, too prone to damage.

How do the Chineese do it?  One things for sure at $5.99 they are worth the punt and might just do the job (don't need a furnace).

I'll let you know once installed if I'd been better buying a lotto ticket.

...Hi Guys, look I know I have come in on this thread somewhat late but...I have been using these for about 10 years without any problems, but a few things to note from the installation I did:

1)...I placed the heat elements under the grips not over em like the bloke in the YouTube clip...and on the LEFT side I placed / fixed  a plastic bar sleeve in order to prevent the heat being dissipated along the handle bars...I have two (2), others to give away if anyone interested...and yes you can routinely replace worn grips...and yes works equally well with form type grips :thumb.

2)...I added  a ceramic ballast resistor (sorry can't remember value), and hung it in the breeze proximal to Left stanchion...this lowers the heat to a low setting.

3)...Replaced the on / off toggle switch with a on / off /on switch to thereby give a low setting and a high setting.

4)...Took the power from the ignition circuit at the battery and added a small relay (pedantic and really not necessary)...but taking the power from the ignition circuit idiot proofed me inadvertently flattening the battery :thumbsup and...

5)...used approx 15cm of heat shrink to cover the wiring from the elements.

As I said that was at least 10 years ago and at that time the all up cost was about $20...have spent much more on replacement grips since then :eek

 Ciao, the can :)

I'll put my hand up for one if there's still one available.

Many thanks for the additional installation info, and the reassurance that they last.

I'll PM my details.

Evein' Biggles...

No problem...when you get the left grip off (I used compressed air), clean up any residue adhesive using a cheap volatile thinner...then (I used a  GP quick grip starting 1cm from the end of the handle bar), and without letting it go-off to tacky, place the 'tube' and leave for 24/24 to go off...then carefully cut off the sealed end so that the harmonic balance weight can be reinstalled later...I the wrapped the element around so that the 'gap' was proximal to where the end of my fingers would rest.

OK after the element has been 'fixed' to the tube...put GP quick grip only along the space left between the two ends of the heating element and if you don't have access to compressed air...use some soapy water (very sparingly), to the element and slide the grip on before the GP quick grip goes tacky and again leave for 24/24...haven't had a grip come loose yet...touch wood :whistle.

Cheers Dick :)

Not sure what the wife will say though, with the ST in the lounge room and all.   :grin

Can't see a problem.  It's not a Norton or Hardley, so there won't be any oil leaked on the Axminster.

I've started a new thread with the video of the install:
http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=3198.0

Not sure how good these will be in Winter, pretty sure they won't do too much if temps fall below 0.

At least the wiring is there if I upgrade :grin
