I have a Pirelli Angel GT (A) on the Beemer, which I hope is no more that 25-30% into it's life. Today I pulled a screw out of the tread after finding the rear tyre flat when I was preparing to go for a ride. :well I repaired the hole using my "Stop & Go" tyre plugger with the soft rubber mushroom plugs, and she's holding pressure, but I'll check again after 24 hours.
Is it appropriate to continue riding and touring on a repaired tyre, or do I need to throw away at least $200 worth of tread and replace the tyre?

I don't know what the experts say but I plugged my tyre in North Bourke on day three of my trip to Queensland in 2017. The plug held for another 5000+km and it wasn't until I had a second unrelated puncture that was too big to plug that I replaced the tyre,

I can't speak for the 'mushrooms', but I've plugged a bike tyre with one of the 'sticky worm' plugs and continued on until the end of its natural life... YMMV (literally!)

You can definitely continue to run on a tire repaired with stop and go plugs, I have done this myself with a tyre that's got a puncher a week after having it put on.
Due to the position of the puncture on the tyre the tyre shop would not repair it so I decided to keep using the tyre with the stop and go plug in it until I was forced to replace it.
I ran that tire with the stop and go plug in it for the remainder of it's life somewhere in the vicinity of 20000 k without issue.

I think you should be okay given the recent experience of plugging the rear tyre on our 1300.
The tyre was replaced 2200 km later which included three rides to the city, Cadell RTE and a ride to Wirrabara. I was expecting the plug to fail and carried the pump plus the plugging kit just in case but not needed.
I should get an image of the plug repair from the inside before Heather recycles the tyre for her pot plants.

I too have used the stop n go plug, until the tyre wore out. The mushroom head expands inside the tyre, and gets seated against the inside of the tyre. It cant fall out, and the core/stem moulds to the shape of the hole

Hi Pete, my 2c worth now 5c with inflation, No pun intended. If a bike shop said it was ok then fine. A DIY repair is just that, a temp repair to see you on your way until it's dealt with accordingly because you don't have any other options. If it was on my road/trail bike that I use for local stuff, shops, etc all good, but for any long-distance riding, not so sure. I know sometimes it comes down to economics, but I would replace it for peace of mind. Just a big fan of staying upright with no surprises..... :eek
Just a footnote...I too have plugged tyres, spent a fair bit of time playing in the mud( in my Patrol ) in my junior years. Used 4 plugs one time, on a tyre I had staked, absolute mess but it got me home. Had already toasted my spare. So down to options.( That tyre became my second spare.)
You all know that 4 wheels verses 2, are lights years apart, and for me, I want to stay upright. So, if it is repairable, great, if not replace....

I've plugged tyres when on the road at least five times, used both sticky worms and mushroom plugs, can't really recall which was better - three on the CB, twice on the ST.
Except for one time on the Great Alpine Road near Omeo, the plugs were sucessful, but this time I needed three sticky worms (may have been four).
Got enough air into rear tyre to get to Omeo, checked pressure, topped it up to 44psi, had lunch and a walk around town for a couple of hours, checked tyre again, pressure had dropped a few psi, topped up again before leaving Omeo, checked and topped up again and again at Swifts Creek and Ensay, stayed overnight at Bairnsdale. Checked and topped up every 100km or so on the way home.
Replaced tyre when home - it had only done about 1,500km. Would have replaced tyre in Bairnsdale, except it was a public holiday and nothing available.

The only people not happy with riding a plugged tyre are the tyre sellers who are worried about liability if one lets go.
Like most above, I've ridden tyres repaired with sticky worms to the end of their natural life. If it was 80% worn when it punctured, I'd probably repair it and start looking for a replacement, but only because they are a bit more vulnerable to punctures as the get near their wear bars.
I went looking for tyres today (I know, it should have been last week) with the read on 22,600 and not going to get another 4000 out of it for Tassie. It's getting dearer to buy PR4s- I'm used to $460 for a pair and have been hit up for $520 once, but they're $580 now. :eek
Are others finding there's been a hike in tyre prices?

I have successfully done probably a hundred laps around Wanneroo racetrack in my Nissan NXR Coupe with a sticky worm plug in a road legal semi race tyre.
Peter I assume the Beemer whas TPM?
To me the following would help me decide to replace or not:-
Front or rear?
Where the hole is?
Remaining tyre life?
Clean puncture?
One plug or multiple plugs?
Planned use for the rest of the tyre life?
TPM system?

Luckily I have only had about 6 punctures since getting my licence in 1964, 3 in 4 wheelers and same in 2 wheelers! Mushroom plugs in the 2 wheelers and kept on riding normally with out any problems. I prefer mushroom plugs to the sticky rope type but all are good when applied properly.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have carefully monitored the tyre pressure for a week or so, and it hasn't altered at all, so at this stage I will continue to ride on the plugged tyre. If it stops holding pressure, I'll get a new tyre.
