Textile, Touring,Waterproof, HiVis ( on the example jacket both orange and silver panels could be Hi Vis), vents and good pockets including a large rear pocket as my current DriRider has.. I also like STud clips on forearms, and glove friendly zipper tags, clear phone pocket. and moST important is good Armour in the usual places.  ++
OzSToc  on back between shoulders .. or could that be considered a patch in some states...
:think1 Is there an approx price being discussed yet?

We have deliberately not talked price, we want to get the general feel for what everyone wants in a jacket, get a design together, make sure the general populous is happy then we will work a price out  :thumb

I have the Zen Adven jacket, and it can easily handle anything really cold up to at least early 30s on a fully faired bike.  I would be after that jacket that fills the 10c up to 40c that you often get on a trip (strating rides out from Canberra can mean you get ranges a bit more than that, but that is what heated grips and seat are all about).  Extra liners etc are not really that necessary as I carry thermals and a jumper to allow for cooler starts (or else I just put up with a bit of cool for a while) but being waterproof with extra venting would be great.

Great idea!!! My thoughts are most people would have a good jacket for riding, this would supplement or complement the wardrobe. So it doesn't need to be for every occasion every ride! I would probably wear on special days, meets, group rides, but not every day.

I do not want it to look like a high viz jacket, that is a real turnoff for me, I mean the ST is big and bright enough as it is, and the example jacket borders on looking high viz now. More black, less orange please.

Fabric : textile
Length :touring style
Ventilation zips front and back
Zip out liner required for I need it to be suitable for cold weather, wet weather.
Would be good if the zipper attachment is suitable to attach /zipping to RST pants for example. Are these zippers standard size/type???
The pictured one looks smart, but I think the acreage of orange is too much, less orange more black please, like the design though.
And what about female sizing designs, my partner might be interested too. Are there any feminine sizes, design considerations???

Have submitted my interest in one of the Ozstoc jackets. I like the design of  the example shown. My current jacket is only 2 years old but the opportunity to own an OzStoc jacket would be great.

With the ladies sizing, at the moment we are just doing a men's sizing run, but in saying that, the consensus of jacket we are looking at will have the adjustable waistband on it, as well as the straps on the arms for adjustment as well, once we get a measurement breakdown of the jackets we will be able to cater for the lady riders and pillions :)

Will give this thread until Tuesday the 22th of April, then we will get into everyone's notes and responses, and work on a design picture, from all the feedback everyone has given us  :thumb

Yes, I'm interested.

Notes below.;

   Fabric for manufacture - cotton, leather,  textile, or hybrid?:- I don't mind which

   Length of jacket short or touring style? :- Touring

   Consider the wearer of the jacket is riding a well faired bike that needs more ventilation.

   Any other specific design features? E.g.  Additional mesh panels for ventilation :- Pockets for phone etc

   Is ventilation required, placement of ventilation?

   Does the jacket need to be waterproof? Removable or permanent waterproof lining :- Yes...removable

   Does it need to provide protection from the elements when the temperature drops to 5 degrees? :- No

   Does the jacket need a thermal lining? :-Same a above

   Should the thermal lining be removable? :-Yes

   Does it need to be suitable when the temperature is over 30 degrees? :-Yes, this is Australia!
Cheers,

Hi again,

I have already expressed my interest and preferences however I neglected to include my preference for high visibility any reflectivity as a high priority. I have a bomber of dark non reflective jackets so given the bright colours or this jacket I would prefer significant reflectivity as well.

   Fabric for manufacture - cotton, leather,  textile, or hybrid?
Textile or maybe Kevlar?

   Length of jacket short or touring style?
Touring

   Consider the wearer of the jacket is riding a well faired bike that needs more ventilation.
Yes, as much as possible

   Any other specific design features? E.g.  Additional mesh panels for ventilation
LOTS of mesh like the jacket Sabie linked

   Is ventilation required, placement of ventilation?
Yes, Everywhere

   Does the jacket need to be waterproof? Removable or permanent waterproof lining
No, as I think most of us have wet weather gear that would go over the jacket.
But if it must, I say go for a removable liner.

   Does it need to provide protection from the elements when the temperature drops to 5 degrees?
Not a big deal for me but if it must a removable liner would be the way to go

   Does the jacket need a thermal lining?
As above

   Should the thermal lining be removable?
Yes

   Does it need to be suitable when the temperature is over 30 degrees?
HELL YES!!!

I think a high airflow Kevlar jacket with armour could also be something to consider?

I’m interested in two (one for me and one for Carrol) but it’ll come down to the price and if I can afford it :think1 :think1

   Does the jacket need to be waterproof? Removable or permanent waterproof lining Preferably or lining would be good

I like the idea of a touring length jacket in textile (cordura) . Zippered vents that run up/down either side the front that can be zipped from top and bottom to control ventilation, zippered vents in the sleeves below the elbow and zippered vents at the shoulders and across the back. A couple of waterproof pockets on the front and an internal waterproof pocket on the rhs of the main zip. The jacket should zip up the front with a velcro closure over the top to stop draughts. The jacket should have an elasticised waist so that,it doesn't flap around, and the wrists should have a zip allowing them to expand for ease of putting on with a velcro closure over the top so they can closed snugly. It should have hi-vis piping along the shoulders and arms. Armour in the elbows and the back. The jacket could have a zip in liner either waterproof or quilted, I don't use jacket liners, I have several hanging in my cupboard. In wet weather I wear a raincoat over the top and in winter I have a polar fleece to go underneath.

Leather is a waste of time for me, as in the tropics as it is just too hot. I figure the ST is a touring bike and I find I'm very comfortable in a touring jacket.

Ditto on all points.  The other drawback of leather is it gets very furry with mould during the wet season.....

Yep - I'm interested, great initiative and just the thing to wear to RTE's and rallies etc including non-Ozstoc events.  I quite like the colours in the sample - very hivis, particularly if the large white bits were reflective.   I'm still wearing one of the early DriRider Drimesh jackets in yellow!  As for the other questions:

Fabric for manufacture - cotton, leather,  textile, or hybrid? Textile - cordura or equivalent

   Length of jacket short or touring style? Touring - draughts up the back on the ST can still be uncomfortable

   Consider the wearer of the jacket is riding a well faired bike that needs more ventilation. yes - as much mesh panel, including on arms as possible (my old drimesh has black fabric sleeves, start to cook in summer)

   Any other specific design features? E.g.  Additional mesh panels for ventilation front, rear and arms as per Sabie's post

   Is ventilation required, placement of ventilation? yes - plenty of it as described above

   Does the jacket need to be waterproof? Removable or permanent waterproof lining removable liners to maximise flexibility.  Waterproof liner is often windproof as well

   Does it need to provide protection from the elements when the temperature drops to 5 degrees? yes

   Does the jacket need a thermal lining? probably, but not essential - I hope to ride in cooler climes one day (Emerald pretty warm even in winter!) and my DriRider Nordic Pro liner is still hanging in cupboard unused

   Should the thermal lining be removable? Yes

   Does it need to be suitable when the temperature is over 30 degrees? Absolutely - see mesh & removable liner as above

Even though it was claimed earlier on that to arrive at design that every one will be happy with will be a bit like herding chickens. There has been great input to creating a jacket that will be suitable for the broadest range of climactic conditions and to suit a large range of rider. The jacket is required to be versatile if it is to meet the requirements of the those in sultry Qld. to the maintaining the core temperature of the southerners.

The design of the jacket seems to have been narrowed down to

1.   Touring style length ( but not too long )

2.   Cordura 600D with heavier weight Cordura at elbows up to the shoulder area, For added proetection.

3.   With CE protection back shoulders elbows for impact protection.

4.   Increased ventilation provided by 3 pairs,  -6 zips at the front of the jacket - 2 pairs at the chest region and one pair at the bicep region which will be particularly effective because it would be outside the faired region. There will be 2 pairs of zips at the rea to encourage the warm to flow.

5.   Waterproof removable Reissa lining. Lining needs to be removable for effective ventilation. Whilst the northerners don’t feel the need for a thermal lining the rest of us do. Just leave it in the pannier when not required.

6.   Plenty of pockets 6 pockets at the front, the rear pocket, 2 inside pockets and 2 inside pockets when the lining is removed.

7.   Scotchlite for night time visibility across the chest and the back rear

8.   The collar to be sueded fleece collar.

9.   There was some desire that the neck should be press stud rather than Velcro. I believe Velcro is more flexible for neck measurement and can be closer fitting if required. But you guys need to reach consensus on this.

10.   The arms & forearms to be adjustable so the jacket is close fitting.

11.   The waist fitting will be adjustable so it will be close fitting.

12.   The back of the shoulder to the side seam 5 cm. action panel to enhance comfort.

I have a sample of what the jacket will be based on. (The sample is black) I can meet up with some Victorians for their input. What do you think?

Once consensus is reached, arrangements for the manufacturer to make up a sample to the specifications will be made. This sample once ok d will be the model for the order.

Once consensus is reached pricing will be developed.

The colours to be as specified by ozStoc.

Regards,
marx

Sounds good to me.  I am really after a better summer jacket that I use most times, as I always seem to have to carry a second jacket. The Zen Adven jacket covers from really cold to 30c or so, so for that other part of the year when you get 10c to hot and humid on a ride is what I am after.

Have to agree with Velcro.....a snap tends to wear out all of a sudden mid trip  :|||| Velcro, well the female side (sorry ladies) wears gradually and could be replaced if needed.
