Year model confusion!
« on: August 12, 2015, 06:25:15 PM »
Nothing too serious, more so mentioning it just out of interest to see if anyone else has a similar year issue -

- My ST is registered as a 2002,
- Honda dealer said the VIN reads as a 2000,
however they also said the compliance plate is 12/2002 which makes it a 2003...

...As I said, wasn't a real drama, they (Honda) just couldn't work out which rear pads it would take, as the 2002 theoretically should be an ST1100 ABS, whereas mine isn't ABS. I've also noticed this on insurance quotes, where the only option for a 2002 is for the ST1100 ABS.

Afterwards, they did clarify to say that the VIN code is for the series made between 2000-2003

On the frame under the seat you should see a label like this. If it says ST1100PY then it's a 2000 model which would tie in with the year code in the VIN. The next and last Police was 2003 and that would give you ST11003P on the sticker but I doubt if we got any of those in Australia. As far as the dealer is concerned then  1100PY should be enough.

Year of first rego isn't an issue in SA, we don't use it on the papers; only the year of manufacture from the VIN code for us.

The compliance plate should have month/year of manufacture as well.

If your Honda dealer doesnt know how to identify the bike, maybe you should go else where..
