I said I would post some feedback at a later time......so here is what I found.

The hat is comfortable, really comfy in fact, but for me it's just not functional......

The brim is to steep....and the problem this creates is you cannot have full vision out from under the brim, the steepness at the rear has it catching on your collar and becoming really annoying......the further you tip it back to see the worse this problem becomes.

I wore it for about 2 hrs the other day on the mower in 30 degrees and I didn't find the heat from a black hat an issue. Navgirl20 gave me a similar story about heat not being an issue when she used it......but I understand people's concerns  :think1

It stores easier than the cap as it folds flat and even after being scrunched up in a top box it holds its original shape well.

That's just some personal feedback I have experienced.

So the same hat with a better brim would put us on to a winner :hatwave

I thought the brim was a bit steep.

Have you looked at collapsible leather oil skin hats.
Cheers,
Gary

I wore the hat quite a bit while on our trip. Besides the size being too large the idea of a bucket hat is great - gives more sun protection than cap. I found the brim too steep and it kept catching on my collar, so a style with a brim that's not so deep would be better.  I'm not keen on mesh inserts as its not sun safe. I think black with orange trim is a good color choice  - it matches the cap  colors so I see no need to change it. As for black in the heat - it's HOT anyway so doesn't make much difference. Apart from that the hat was well with good stitching etc and would last.

Well the feedback seams to confirm that a bucket/broadbrim hat is a good idea....per the poll the style is inconclusive, so we will look for another hat and if nothing appears in a reasonable period of time we will go with this one  :thumb

Thanks for your feedback and opinions  :-++

Yeah, Looks good from a winterised NZ. Colour and shape both. Sometimes you just gotta try it on o see how it feels / looks.

Has there been further development in the OzSTOC Bucket Hat trial?
Will we be seeing one for sale anytime soon?

I need to STRESS that having MESH is NOT a good idea for a bucket hat.

it does not make it a sun safe hat as the sun still gets through the mesh and you WILL get sun burn.

I know this from experience ...... my bald head got burnt to a crisp on a days fishing with a "sun safe" hat with MESH.

Also as  wearer of bucket hats EVERYDAY in hot hot HOOOOOOOOOT Townsville I can honestly say that the colour really makes very little difference to the user ..... as I have said before .... if it's hot, it's hot!

As you have stated the brim is waaaay to steep.

I'll see if I can fine my old favourite bucket hat that had a great brim and see if I can find the manufacturer.

Cheers,

Spanner.
