- I understand there is an "old" MC Cruise and a "new" MC Cruise, is that the case?
- How do I tell?
- Can the MC Cruise be swapped from bike to bike without too much effort?
- Who do I turn to for guidance?
- Anything else I should ask?
Johnny covered most aspects. Obviously you can't buy the "old" version any more, but the manufacturers still support it.
The current version is superior because it uses an electric stepper motor actuator which is more precise in its operation. There's also a subtle improvement in the way you disengage it. That said, the original vacuum operated CC does a very good job.
It's well worth the cost saving to do a swap between bikes, but I couldn't be bothered. The installation does nothing irreversible to the bike, so you could remove it and reinstall it on another bike. As an amateur I set aside a weekend for the job but I think Farkleit can do it in about 4 hours. He obviously doesn't have to budget re-reading the instructions for every step, having restorative coffees (and when the going gets rough, several medicinal Scotches), meal breaks, and "Honey-dos".
