Willos Wobbly Waterloo & Wearisome Wait
« on: July 15, 2016, 08:58:35 AM »
Sunday nearly three weeks ago, I slipped and fell over on a muddy, slippery slope at the park whilst taking Jedi-the-Wonder-Dog on a walk.   Result was fractures in the fibula and the tibia in my left leg, orthopaedic surgeon putting in two in the tibia and the leg in a temporary plaster.

A follow-up visit to the Austin Hospital yesterday, and the very helpful and friendly medical staff at the Fracture Clinic, cut-off the plaster, removed a couple of stitches, fitted me a Moon Boot, booked me another follow-up visit in six weeks and then said, "Go home".  That's the Good News.

The Bad News is that left leg is not to bear weight for another six weeks, ie. the next visit.  Prior to that visit I am to get another x-ray.  If the x-ray shows the fractures have mended satisfactorily, the Moon Boot stays on for another three to six weeks, but the leg will be able to bear weight.   More bad news will be if the x-ray shows the fractures have not mended satisfactorily, but I'll deal with that if and when.

The really bad news is that Dr Helen reckons that it will be another four months before I can ride the Mighty ST1300.

 :well

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??? Four effing months!!!

 :OldMan :OldMan

In the meantime, I suppose I will need a kind friend to volunteer taking the Mighty ST1300 for a run now and again, keep the battery charged, blow out to cob webs, etc .. not sure who is qualified for this task.

Anyway, those that are interested should submit an expression of interest, include at least three references, one of which should be from your bank manager/finance manager verifying you have sufficient funds to cover the ST in case it isn't returned in the same condition as it left.  The queue currently starts at Ballarat.

You will also need to convince Dr Helen to tell where she has hidden the keys.

 :think1 :think1 :think1

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

Best of recoveries for you Michael. Don't rush the load bearing.

Have you got a battery charger? Put that on once a month and the battery should be good.

The fuel will start to go stale though, so starting and running in the garage is recommended and a fresh top up with a jerrycan before renewing your riding.

This sounds like you speak from authority, and more likely to be on the giving rather the receiving end of the punishment.

Thanks to others for the support, good wishes and advice.

All the best for a speedy recovery. I know what you're going through as I have just had anterior ligament replaced and will be off the bike for about the same length of time the one good thing is the weather will be abit warmer. :dred11 :dred11 :dred11

Like NTRebel suggested, at least it's winter, so you're not missing much in Ballarat.
Trust all the predictions about time turn out to be pessimistic, and you're back terrorising the traffic early Spring.

How is the recovery progressing, Michael?

Slowly, still in moon boot, no weight bearing until Thursday plus two weeks, then moon boot for another four week, weight bearing at that stage, screws out end of Sept, this might weight until return from Sunshine Coast mid Oct.

Have the IBA number and would love to help out, especially to trial the Daylong seat.  But Brissie to Ballyrat is a big ask, so might have to let the battery charger do its thing.
But do leave the garage door open while you run the engine.  I've heard Carbon Monoxide can spoil your day.

An update for those that are interested .............

Leg is coming on well, X-rays show bone mended so off crutches but still limping around, it is still effing sore.  Probably not taking physio as seriously as I should, been four months (or so) since the fall, one month off work, back for three months, 10 days R&R on the Sunshine coast helped my spirits, but the pain came back as the plane landed at Tulla, pain eased for a few days after the Mighty Western Bulldogs won the AFL GF (but that could've been the booze), doc and physio say I won't be back to normal until Jan / Feb, so no motorcycling probably until then.

In the meantime, I suppose I will need a kind friend to volunteer taking the Mighty ST1300 for a run now and again, keep the battery charged, blow out to cob webs, etc .. not sure who is qualified for this task.

No one has taken me up on the above offer, the ST1300 is sitting painfully gathering dust, desperately needing a run.  I would've thought that there was an ST1100 owner out there, wanting find some of the joy JohnnyYTED recently found, but alas our Melbourne / VIC 1100 colleagues must be satisfied with what they've got.   And so they should, but an Black ST1300!  What's they saying, "Once you've had black, you never go back" ............

Calling Nigel to the 'phone ........

Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

" I would've thought that there was an ST1100 owner out there, wanting find some of the joy johnnyYTED recently found,"
Micheal, I heard a loyal o:) NSW OzSTOCer saying something like, 'Wow a chance to ride a ST1300 Black"   :blk13   :whistle  those voices in my head,,  There's something else the voices are saying,,   something like,,  "once you ride Black,,, you never GIVE it back" ...  :-(((
Somehow atm I don't  think those voice can meet all the necessary requirements..  >:()
might be hard getting 3 references,, I have 1 recent Reference surplus from STranger's South Australia return for court appearance  and an IBA #  :thumb
I may find it extremely difficult to supply a Financial reference stating sufficient funds to cover return, but in response see what the voices said above, "once you ride Black,,, you 'never' GIVE it back"  :fp
Can I offer you this, I Will ensure to WASH off the accumulated dust.. .and polish   :grin
Gee wouldn't it be nice to have 2 ST1300's temping it in my garage and STranger could relax in the garden state for a few days whilst I'm blowing out the cobwebs riding back to NSW, a Putty Rd ride then return her  to Vic after those voices  :well remind me of my integrity'
on a lighter note, keep up the progress, and maybe a calcium supplement to aid bone density,,  ;-*  :grin

those voices are telling me of your reply... something like this,,,  :CB--  :CB--  :CB--  :crackup
Picton  if it doesn’t flood higher than previous times.

Here's going you are pain free by Christmas.
