QUEENSLAND 2015 National Rally Location Ideas

Ok everyone, throw your ten cents in the Ring and put in your suggestion for which town we should have the QUEENSLAND 2015 National Rally in.

Date:
20th-22nd of March 2015

Things we have to think of:

Accommodation (for around a 100 people)

Great Riding Country

Something that gives the town interest for people to visit

Places to see in and Around the area.

Access to Airport for pillions or family who would like to fly in.

so tell us what you think, and why  :thumb

Need to make sure these dates don't clash with a local annual event, otherwise accommodation may be scarce, or at least unnecessarily expensive.

Rainbow Beach seems to meet the criteria fairly well, air access is 60 to 85km away .    And, I've wanted to go there for a while.

yep a very good point! a scouting mission to the proposed area and to the tourist information centre is always a great idea

A week earlier would be good as 21- 22 March is just before start of the Ulysses AGM down in Albury/Wodonga starting on the Monday 23 March.

I vote for Diesels place......big yard, big shed, big BBQ and Mrs Diesel's neck would relish the company of people of normal stature..... Pockey may need to wear heels that day  :think1  :Stirpot

OR Sunshine Coast Hinterland area would be super  :thumbsup

Cairns?

Cairns?

Cairns?  Great location and roads.
A little unnecessarily remote.  By that I mean, if you go to WA, you gotta cross the country- that's where it is.
To go somewhere in Qld, you can just go to the Gold Coast (or Cameron's Corner, to make it fair for W.A.)

I'd be thinking Sunshine Coast Hinterland, since it's a good ride for everyone, yourself included.
And you can't fault the roads or the climate.
Need to be booking a Caravan Park now if we want most of it!!

I also can't see a problem with going a week earlier to avoid the Ulysses AGM near-clash.

Ulysses AGM near-clash.
These things must be pretty special if everyone goes to it. Yet, and no offence intended, alot of people I've spoken too don't like how the organisation is run and only go to agm's

Since I'm not attending Ballarat, QLD is on the radar... While I've crossed the Nullarbor only once (and thoroughly enjoyed it), getting to Cairns via the top-end is also quite appealing (not having checked the NT/QLD wet-season forecasts, but I think March may be too early for this ride)... it's only about an extra 1000km than going via SA. The further south you go, the longer the northern route becomes.

You hear right - The current el presidente couldnt organise a passion filled moment in a brothel  :well- Its all about the ride there and back and the company you catch up with each year.

for amazing riding, and being about to tour around before and after the rally, The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is definitely on the radar  :thumb

Cairns has the tourism side to it to, so it wont be ruled out either.

Toowoomba is also of interest as it makes it very accessible to everyone.

I'll +1 this idea, except for the mankini part.

Rob.

You can always go the southern route and comeback across the top end.

As for me Cairns and Perth are about the same distance (2700 kms) from where I currently live but with Cairns (or even Townsville) I can come back via Three ways and back home down the centre.

Cairns in March could be a bit dicey weather wise (especially if they have a decent wet season), a bit further south would be better at that time of year.  My vote is for Townsville

Considering we need people "on the ground" to organise these events, Townsville wins hands down:

:rockonA few points with regard to Townsville and the requirements as listed above.

Accommodation - yes

Airport access - Yes

Things to do and see - kind of but much better scenery in other parts of the State

Great Riding Country - not a lot of exciting places (if any) most roads it's the same road out as it is back into Townsville not really any loop roads.

Wet season is the same as Cairns, so if Cairns is wet so are we. The main difference is Cairns has rain all year through, Townsville only during the wet season really.

Personally, for me, either the (1) Sunshine Coast and it's hinterland or (2) the Gold Coast and it's hinterland would be my vote.
