Looks like a GT version of the Bridgestone 023 is now available for ST1300 tyre sizes in the US of A.  I'm currently running a set of BT 023's and so far I like them, unfortunately they don't wear as well as the BT 020's.....especially for 2 up riding.  Would like to give the heavier GT version a run when they become available in Oz.

Had to settle on BT23s for the 1100. Wanted PR3 but Micnellin Aust couldnt make up there mind if the right sizes were available or not. Same with the PR2

 

Metzler Z6s seem to be finished, and nothing in Z8 as yet.

One of the few frustrating things I find with the ST is the lack of tyre choice.  If you stick with the recommended OEM tyres, or tyres that are endorsed by the tyre manufacturer, there's not a lot of choice.

I don't mind the BT 023's, they have just as much grip as the PR2's in the dry and they appear to hang on pretty well in the wet.  In the handling department they feel very nuetral, tip in when cornering is very predictable.  Bump absorption is good with the ride quality being much better than the 020's.  Definitely aren't as noisy as the Michelins.  On the down side the 023's are going to wear quickly, especially when 2 up, so I hope the GT is a big improvement in this area.

Its important to keep the right size on the front, as the speedo drive is there, as for the back, it changes the revs required for a speed. In this case for 100 KPH, revs drop by 100 to 3184 RPM. Or at least thats what my calculator says. Might save a little fuel.

My last BT 023 gave me about 12,000kms with usage varying from solo, two up and trailer, solo and trailer.
And so far I have 11,000kms on the front tyre.

I also use - as I posted previously - Storm 2 Ultra - front & rear

Both fitted at same time - have covered 11,000 kms - about 70% commute and would have to say - on present wear - another 7,500 to 8,000 kms - at least ........ no cupping - scuffing - head wobble or or or ...I run 40 psi front and 44 psi rear - handles brilliantly - wet & dry - turn in is excellent -  real confidence boosters.

Could only recommend despite some reports.

Happy Tyre decisions - as Down Under has stated - Brand choice is limited - especially ST1100.

ST13 sizes work ok on the ST11 but I prefer the right sizes if possible.  Even ST13 sizes are a bit limiting at times for standard models (later ABS ST11s use the same front as the ST13)

Storm 2 ultras are my current pick for best tyre on the ST11 but the Shinko Verge is giving them a good run for their money at the moment.

I read on one site that the GT version of the BT023 is in 180/55 rear only, but it may fit the ST13.

Is there a suitable C/T that will fit the rear of the St1300 some people give good reports about the Kuhmo on other makes of motorcycles.
  Has anyone tried this route.

  Opinions please.

The BT 023 GT is definitely available in the USA in ST1300 sizes.  I don't think there's a GT tyre for the 1100 yet.  Have a look at the link:

Great then.  If they are in ST13 sizes I would have no hesitation in trying them on the ST11 as I have found no problems doing so.

Has anyone tried the Conti. Attacks for there 1300. My Battleaxe are cupping after 9000 km and I am wondering what is out there.this is the first st I have had. I had a black bird before and there is plenty to choose from.

Nice find Tipsy, but they cant/wont ship tyres overseas according to their checkout page. There are many tyre shops in the US that are cheaper than here, cant send certain tyres brands here, like PR2/3 (Just about anything that fits the 1100 )

Some of the US shops sound cheap but the shipping is a killer.  JakeWilson was shipping PR2/3s a while ago, but has been blocked in the past from shipping them overseas. 

On the Conti Roadattacks, I have tried them in ST13 sizes on the ST11.  They were worn out in 10,000kms, same as many other tyres for me so a rating of avearge all round (and an average rating is still a pretty good tyre!).  If they were just cupped a bit at 9,000kms I would be happy!  PR2/3s seem the best for distance and grip it seems, but I have not tried them as yet.  Best tyres so far have been Avon Storm Ultra 2's which went 13,000kms on the St11 but also worked well in all conditions.

Shinko Verge - not heard of them before, I'm gonna look them up.

I thought we were limited to the Avon Storm U2 or Bridgrstone 023 on the 1100 (for radials at least).  I used the Avon on the rear of my FireBlade in the UK, I thought it was a good tyre.  Bot the 023's seem to be a fair bit cheaper, much as I don't like Bridgestone I'll probably go for these.  Or maybe the Shinko's now...

I am quite surprised at how well they work in the wet, as I thought the Avons were great at that but the Shinkos are just as good.  They are stiffer in the carcass so don't ride as plush as the Avon, and the Pr2s I hace sitting in the garage seem really soft carcass wise in comparison.

Last order I got from JakeWilson they cost $220 a pair delivered, but i bought a few pairs in the order for some other St riders around here, so the average shipping cost was a bit lower.

Brock I buy tyres motor bike stuff from Rocky Mountain Atv ( Jake Wilson ) if you get a couple of guys together you can get them at the right price. They give you a $50.00 cash reward that you can use on your next purchase.I keep the total too $700.00 and it cost me $100.00 freight with the cash rewards it's only $50.00. If you go over the $700.00, the frieght and duties go up to $320.00..it usually comes in 4 days to Melbourne. But you being on another planet it might take a bit longer. The goods come by Fedx. Any of you guys run contie's?  I've known a few mates to run them for years since they went through re-tooling (picking up I believe Pirelli's staff  when metzeler took over pirelli) with great success- some of them even racing on them.  Excellent excellent wet weather tyres, just make sure the pressures are up- they get greasy if under inflated
