As a Newbie to the Ozstoc, do we ride as a group where possible or do I just make my own way there?

Good question, that is often asked.

The aim of an RTE is to meet somewhere and eat.....

Due to the way in which members are scattered all around the place, its not practical to meet at a spot and ride as a group to the destination.

Having said that, usually, some will say "I am leaving home at hh:mm, and will be going to the RTE via this route. I will be at XX fuel stop at hh:45 and will wait for 15 min should any one wish to ride with me"

Williamson and myself will be leaving St Helena around 8.30 am for a quiet cruise, fuel and tyre check before heading to Yan Yean, Whittlesea, etc.
If you can make it that early from Croydon you are welcome to travel with us. St Helena is only 30 minutes NW from Croydon

All of the above would workout okay.

The Google Map link I shared with Kev takes us via Yan Yean and Whittlesea, but we could just as easily go via Yarra Glen.

There's a meeting area at red marker on this Google Map https://goo.gl/maps/8c8j3kvP79M2 in front of McKenzie Reserve, we could be there by around 9:15am. If that suits, post a reply and we can ride as three. Four if time and locale suits Nigel - you know you want to Nigel.

How about, I just say I will be at Yea around 9.45, leaving 10.15 at the Bakery (across the road from the toilets)
If anybody arrives, that would be great, otherwise meet you all at Mansfield.
