Is a crime
« on: February 03, 2019, 07:29:49 PM »
Ive always wondered" is a crime " to dont have a need to ride with a group .
I get my jollys riding alone ,but also find solitude and enjoyment riding with my wife .
Am i a one off , a freak or is there others who get the picture .
Asking for a friend.

I certainly enjoy riding on my own.   I can ride to my own plan, stop when I want, not worry about what anyone else wants to do, and consider the time alone on my bike almost as time spent in meditation/contemplation (Helmet Time).    Sharing the ride with pillion Chris is the next best thing to riding on my own, and riding in a small group is a poor third.   Having said that, sharing the experience of the day's ride over a cuppa or a glass at the end of the day with others is something I enjoy.

I ride mostly on my  own. Rarely in a small group. I have two mates who I ride occasionally with. Perhaps every few months. Very content on my own. As Stinkypete says you can ride your own route, tempo and stop when it suits. Good plan I reckon.

My Chris doesnt ride. She used to when we were both a lot younger but is not interested now.

I am contemplating going on the Wall to Wall ride this year which would be a departure but a one off as I dont expect I will enjoy it all.

So we're basically a bunch of loners!
I'm one of the worst offenders, being and Ironbutter and FarRider.  But Missus Biggles has tens of thousands of kays on the bike so I'll take pillions.  I'm also ride coordinator for Brisbane Christian Motorcyclists which means I lead a group once a month, sometimes twice.  I've had as many as 40 behind me, but that's extremely rare, and we have UHF CB in those cases.  Usually it's 5 to 15 and that entails a lot of "mirror watching" which I can cope with IF people will keep up!
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Heather is with me most of the time and rarely do we ride with other bikes so I/we are loners.

I hate riding alone.  Never do it.  Who am I kidding?  Almost 100% of my riding is alone.  I'm not a big fan of group riding for the reasons Stinky Pete alluded too.  I usually do my own thing going to our RTE's but will ride home with others if they are going the same way.

Most of my riding is alone, sometime Lane is on the back.  I like the no worries about keeping up or people keeping up factor, and you can just focus on the ride.

I do most of my riding in group riding with work mates or ex work mates but have a few extras at times
We just all get along really well
Only occasionally I ride alone except to meet up somewhere

Fish, Steve and I have travelled together for many tens of thousands of kilometers of touring, and with CB coms between us, we are pretty comfortable travelling together, and pretty well know what each other are thinking.    Other small groups I have travelled with have been awful riding experiences, like herding cats.    I went on one charity ride with a couple of hundred riders and it was a near death experience, and I eventually peeled off and went home on my own.

Pete that reminds me that I did a ride with the local Ulysses Club to South Bank in Brisbane in a big group
The ride leader couldn't hold a speed
So we were 100 then 80 then 120 and so on
So we came home our own way
So one of the reasons why we ride in our own group

I'm a loner also.  :think1 There's always someone else inside my helmet to talk to  :hijacked .  Like others I find time to thinking thru my worldly woes without giving things a single thought.
1 thing I think differs from others is I enjoy night riding. always have, never HIT any wildlife but had many a close call.
Group rides are ok occasionally, I just play along.

I'm usually lost before I leave home so I end up anywhere a road leads..

Hahaha,i use a age old theory on destinations .Left at the round about = West Coast - Right at the roundabout = East Coast or down South.
Straight through the roundabout and i get a free ride to Hospital

I spend most of my time riding alone for similar reasons to Stinky Pete. Have been on a few 'near death experience' charity rides but not any more. The best group to ride with I have found have been OZSTOC when at an RTE or National Rally. Sensible riders who can keep a safe distance and steady pace.  :thumbsup

I like to ride.  I like planning a ride.  I like talking to / telling people about my ride.

I'll ride solo, with a pillion, with a ride partner, perhaps two, three or four, next Sunday there may be half a dozen, perhaps more riding from Mt Macedon to Lyonville.

Large groups?  I rode with couple thou the Ulysses at Penrith, never again; a few hundred on a Black Dog Ride, never, never, ever again.  One time (because a mate wanted to) we rode with a humungous group from Cranbourne to Phillip Island (on GP weekend).  Most of the riders were sensible, a very small minority were absolutely crazy, lane splitting (between motorcycles), lane swapping, speeding up/down, we peeled off at Tooradin, we'd had enough.
Cheers,  Williamson (AKA Michael)

Alone or with a couple of friends for me. The occasional group ride but it usually confirms for me why i prefer the aforementioned. I would never consider a large group ride, i dont like too many variables.
