Carbon Cleaner
Turtle:
My St1100 has in the last few months started to make a slight ticking sound for about 10 seconds or so after a rev from idle then back to idle it ticks for a bit seems to be from valve area I spoke to my bike machanic he said wont be valve adjustment will be carbon sticky valve or valves and to put a bottle of fuel cleaner in and go ride it hard to clean the carbon out ........
Has anyone got a good cleaner to put in the tank they reccomend I will give it a go then see results

Hi Turtle,
Sounds interesting- I honestly couldn't say if he is right or not? Just not a noise I have ever chased down before.
As far as an in tank cleaner, nothing I am aware of cleans as well as PM800 (maybe Proma actually). I've personally pulled off intake manifolds on injected and carby's off cars running PM800, after as few as 5 tanks- you can see the spray pattern from the injectors, down the runners to the valves- pristinely clean everywhere fuel touches, where the fuel doesn't reach you see the usual build up of carbon.
$36 for 1 litre, which is enough to treat 1,000 litres. By the end of the first tank throttle response will improve, I am still waiting for feedback from ST's but expect by the third tank to see consistant fuel economy improvements to the tune of 60km extra per tank (Based on what I have seen from other bikes)
Message me if you would like to give it a go
Brad

Thanks for the reply Brad
I will try the cheaper option first fuel cleaner, the bike runs fine other than this slight noise does smell a bit rich I had plugs out a little carbon but not to bad air filter clean also done

The valve gap on the ST11 usually close up rather than widen. The Techron cleaner seems to work ok when I have tried it. I am going down the PM800 route for various reasons, some more to do with the car being converted to lpg

A little bit of diesel (maybe half litre per tank) works in cars I've had. :bl11
