How to fit a Givi monokey to an ST1100

(1/2) > >>

STutter:
Hey guys, I recently purchased a top box of ST2UP and it looks great. However, I'm a bit confused on fitting it.

I have read they need a rack of some description, but I'm having difficulty tracking one down. What makes it more difficult is I don't know what exact model the top box is (other than around 50L with givi monokey sticker on the side)

Is there a tried and true DIY way? Any help would be appreciated.

saaz:
The Givi rack is a generic part for all their topboxes.  It is part of their mounting system.  There is a specific one for bikes like the ST1100, as I bought one a few years ago.  It is a metal rack and quite solid.  I think you might be able to fit a generic Givi rack that comes in a nylon material http://www.giviusa.com/Fitment-kits/  (mine is the special rack in aluminium).

If you want to try and make one up, I just happen to have a spare givi metal rack sitting next to the bike, as I am going back to a gearsack system for a while just to decide what I will go with long term.  So if you want to borrow it to try and make something up let me know.

Tackleberry:
STutter if you want to send me a PM we can meet up and I can show you the old plate I have recently taken off to try the Gearsack options again as saaz has done.  I may even have a second plate sitting around here somewhere and if you twist my arm enough I may even be coerced to part with it.  Will have to find it first but.

I was the first one that arrived at the Xmas party at Sabie's for reference.

STutter:
Hey Steve, that would be great. Would this weekend be OK to have a look or whatever? Even if I can borrow it to make a dodgy copy, that would be great.

Tackleberry:
STutter.  No probs to collect this weekend brother.  Send me a PM and I'll give you the address to collect from, as my bike is in several pieces atm.
