About three weeks ago our 1300 got to the point of being low on fuel with the distance remaining function working but since then a few strange things have happened.
For a couple of mornings the fuel read out just flashed on and off for a few minutes before showing the usual k/l average and level. I put it down to a couple of nights where we had minus overnight temps.
The last few times I've had a lower than usual fuel level show on start up and after the bike has warmed up a little more fuel would show on the gauge.
On Friday I filled the tank and gauge showed full as normal and on Tuesday we had a ride to Jamestown and back with the gauge showing half full back home and only having done 90 km since full. In the past the gauge would be still showing on the 7th bar with this short of trip.
Going to the local shop today showed the gauge from home at 4 bars going up to five, back to four and back up to five then six before dropping back to five at shut down. Fuel left in the top tank is about what 90 km would use so about 30% used.
The motor is running fine just as it has been for the last 10,000 km.
Just wondering if low fuel temperature might cause float issues or could it be something else.

Do you use E10 fuel at all?

I forget the last time I used E10.
Usually 95 unless the pump in town isn't working then it's 91 but last two tanks have been 95

I haven't seen or heard of that before. Sometimes there is a change in reading between being on the side stand and vertical, but only by one graduation. The only other anomaly I've observed is the "distance remaining" will be inconsistent if you do a few short runs while it's in countdown mode. I overcome that by zeroing the trip meter when it starts to flash and only run 65km around town as opposed to 90 on the highway.
Yours reads like a faulty sender or gauge.

I had two suggestions/options to try as a fix and the easiest was an ECU reset which I've just completed and no apparent improvement in the fuel readout though it dead read 4 bars when I started the bike to move it and starting after the reset it stayed on 5 bars. Until I fill then tank again for Saturday'd RTE I can be sure it's okay or not.
I think the gauge itself is okay as it fully lights up before dropping back to fuel level when the key turns on
The other suggestion is a faulty sender unit in the top tank which is about $US88 or $125
to my door.

I had to take Tammie over To Jamestown for a medical visit and after getting back home I topped the tank for tomorrow's RTE at Stone Hut.
Gauge at full won't go past the 7th bar and it took 10.45 litres from half full or 4 bars on the gauge after about 190 km
Time for a new sender unit in the top tank by the look of it.

I think that's the first time that fault has come up for the ST1300 on this Forum. A search shows the odd ST1100 query.

Seems to be a common issue for some of the EU bikes from the person who suggested it on Facebook.
I can live with for a little while
