Final Dive Filler Cap ...cracked
« on: November 10, 2013, 04:07:42 PM »
Just doing some service in prep for this coming Friday's run down to Overland Corner RTE and thought... Hmmm that felt odd.

Wound it out and turned the cap up tight again by hand but its not good.

Took it back out and its cracked through along the line of the thread almost all the way round just above the "O"ring. It looks like its been growing for some time as the mid section is darker than the rest.

The obvious fix is order a new one which I will do in the morning... but...

What models do these caps interchange with?  Does anyone know? Would one from a Wing fit?

Thats a bugger, it must have been over tightened at some stage.

Repco may have something that fits..

G'day Brock

Yep overtightened would have done it.
I always use a deep series socket without the ratchet just like a screw driver to avoid just that problem. I remember checking the fluid level when I got this bike home and didnt have to try too hard to undo it. I should have checked properly back then.

I just use a ratchet ring spanner to remove and refit, it only needs to be snugged up.

My 1100 had the same problem. Used the one out of the Shadow 750 until the stealer got a new one in.

These are the same plugs as used on valve adjustment covers on Honda cylinder heads of the seventies and eighties (maybe still making bikes with them) so not hard to find. B and B in Tamworth have a box of them.

Thats sounding promising STeveo Tamworth is only an hour down the road and a box full is promising..

Shadow 750 is logged as a fall back too...

Cheers guys.

Quite a number of the Honda shafties used the same plug in the final drive housing, in fact if you look the part number up and check what models it suits it will surprise you.

Bert at Bikes and Bits in Tamworth had a look in that box for me Steve and sure enough they have a cap for the job. Same part number as an XL valve cover as you suggested .
