Your First OzSTOC RTE/Gathering
« on: April 07, 2020, 03:23:23 PM »
With Diesel posting some of his early OzSTOC experiences, I thought it might be nice to her about your first RTE encounters with OzSTOC.

My own first experience with an OzSTOC gathering was at the Blackheath NatRally in 2012.   I joined the forum in late November 2011, and in April 212 rode to Blackheath for the Rally.    I do recall the slow and very hot ride up the mountain road Great Westrn Highway, as there had been a crash or breakdown at Mt Victoria which slowed traffic all the way up the mountain to walking pace, and the stink of hot engines and clutches filled the air in the stop/start conditions.   I was relieved to get to the top and get moving at a decent pace again, as the ST was running pretty hot.   The Rally was a lovely gathering of like minded ST owners, and as an interstate traveller I was made most welcome, and made many friends.   Our Saturday lunch was at the Tarana Hotel, and I've since been back there a couple of times.

Here's a couple of photos from that gathering.

I know I was there, but missed the photo shoot.
Here's hoping this year's Rally can go ahead!

Thanks Stinky - this will be one of the great threads on the OzSTOC Forum.

It was amazing for Streak and I to see wonderful people riding in from all over Australia to join in the festivities of this inaugural Nat STOC meet.

Here is my initial idea about getting ST Owners together....

My first RTE was in Normanville, South Australia in november 2016.  I'd registered for the forum months earlier after Bills Motorcycles had gone into liquidation (thanks to Richo for making a thread on it) and researching that brought me to the forum.  A trip to Japan later meant it was a while before I could actually get to an RTE.

This was the first major ride by OZSTOC, on 18th September 2010 out to Toowoomba, commencing in Samford Village.  One rider, who shall remain nameless, refuelled with a non-standard petroleum and after blowing quite a cloud of smoke, decided to get a lift home from the rendezvous point.
There was one ride before this one, which I missed, comprising 4 bikes.

There was a certain uniformity about the type of motorcycle back in those days.

Is that when, where and how Dave got his Forum name?

The first OzStocer's i met in person were Streak and Shiney at McDonalds in Warwick in 2013 on the way to the 2nd National Rally.I had bought my 2003 1300 in February, joined the forum and learned about Middleton and decided that i was going.
That ride was a great introduction to members from all over the country, some of whom after 7 years STill speak to me  :crackup

I joined OzSTOC on 8th September 2012, so living in Toowoomba I went and met Streak at Hip Pocket Workwear he said he was riding to Inverall on Saturday for a RTE/overnighter on Saturday 12th as I didn't have time to organise myself I rode down with him to Warwick Caltex north of Warwick where we met up with riders out of Brisbane. After having coffee and meeting my new friends not knowing how much this took over my life
I remembered being impressed with Shiney's Blue ST1300
The following year I organised a group of mates to go and attend the RTE/overnighter to Inverall
I was hooked  :hatwave

Think the first RTE/Gathering was a Nat Rally on a hired ST down in Victoria..good gathering of very bright orange t-shirts..
As for how I came about OzSTOC...well that was the result of witnessing a well known 'he shall remain nameless member' of alternative fuel experiences guiding the one and only Streak to his first timed long distance ride event only to be reminded after such endurance that they had in fact begun their quest in Sunny QLD an hour too early for the 24hr arrival South of the Border and subsequently experienced a rather embarrassing, all be it hilarious, DNF...now to be know as the 'time challenged' member  :rofl :rofl :rofl
One day you will wake up and there won't be anymore time to do the things you've always wanted so do them NOW!!!
Remember there are 7 days in a week and Someday isn't one of them!

Wasn't there some story about a stove and the Nameless personage?  Was it Inverell?  As I recall, the inimitable Streak performed well that weekend also...

Streak was most certainly Inverell. I've got photos somewhere of that.

As for the other incident,it must have been easter because legend has it that hot crossed buns were involved.
