Title: Repairs for ST1100
Post by: STeveo on March 29, 2012, 03:39:03 PM
My 1994 ST1100 fell over on the Putty road last Sunday and now I am out of hospital am looking for some bits to get back on the road. Mine is the dark blue colour, and I need a mirror cover with blinker light, right top half fairing, right lower half fairing, standard screen, engine access cover, grey tip over bar cover and the toolbox grey side piece. I still hope to be able to ride for the national rally. Can anybody help with any bits?  :bl11

Have been to the shed yesterday and been able to one handed remove some of the broken bits. Most damage is to fairing and mounts, and have been looking for plastic welding supplies on web but need to know what type of plastic the fairing bits are made of. Anybody got any ideas? :bl11

Thanks tj189. I was thinking of getting some similar plastics eg car bumper to practice on before attempting the ST fairings. Have bought the blinker lens and mirror local as they were $4.00 cheaper than I could find on ebay, and have got pricing for the grey skid bar cover at $27.60. I shall check ebay again, but I think the local dealer will still be a better option (and I can get some sympathy while I drink his coffee). :bl11

Hi Steveo,
the plastic is ABS plastic. Most plastic from modern autos is ABS. I am in the process of repairing my fairings by using a plastic stone guard from a wrecked auto. I went to a local smash repair place and asked him for some plastic. You will instantly know if it is ABS plastic as the two plastics when melted will flow together. I use a soldering iron to repair my plastic and use the auto parts to reinforce the joint. Has worked well for me. Put a blinker cover unit together broken into four pieces, now good as new. You will need a little practice welding the plastic before atempting the actual repairs. Take your time and work the soldering iron to maintain a molten pool to almost full thickness of the plastic your working with. Good luck.

Thanks Hobs, will try that.

Does anybody know if the dark blue colour of the 1994 and 1995 models are the same. Looking at some bits from 95 model described as Atlantis Blue, but don't want to get them sent if wrong colour. Any help? :bl11

I think you can find the info you need here. You colour code should be on the frame under the seat.

Bloody slowly. Hope your trip going well. Off to bike shop to order parts today as still cheaper new than second hand plus freight from ebay.  Cheers Steve.   :bl11
