Title: The Road to Mannum and beyond
Post by: Cerebral Knievel on August 26, 2022, 06:24:32 PM
My ride to Mannum started 4 days ago after being let off the chain early by understanding employer.
I hit Nyngan the first day after an early start from Brisbane.
After reaching Broken Hill early i pretty much went to bed. The fatigue from the previous day's freezing cold windy rainy ride had taken it's toll.
3 coffee's could not keep me awake.
After 12 hours sleep i headed off early, stopping at the Shell servo to top up the tank.
As i got off the bike, a tall bloke in a Kawasaki jumper walked out holding a 2 litre bottle of milk,
After some conversation it turns out i was talking to SupaFrog. He is off to Melbourne this weekend to pick up the Steed Williamson inspected then he'll be joining us at Mannum.

I headed out of town, turned right at Peterborough and ended up in Quorn for the night.
Departing early this morning i had breakfast in Hawker then motored up to Blinman,
After speaking to some GS and Africa Twin riders i took the dirt track through Angorichina Village and the Parachilna Gorge and rejoined the Highway after 33km of dirt.

Currently in Marree for the night, i'm heading down to Marion Bay tomorrow.

Milage is about 2330km for the trip so far with another 750 odd to go tomorrow.

I'll sort out some pictures maybe Sunday arvo.

See some of you this time next week in Mannum !

How amazing are these random connections with fellow riders!?  They're far more common than you would expect by chance.

The Flinders Ranges are absolutely stunning.

Marree is certainly an experience.

The Marion Bay Tavern is a bit of alright.

I passed through Adelaide unscathed and headed for the Myponga Reservoir that featured in the 2013 National Rally.

After a quick Brewery stop and a ride out to D'estrees Bay it was time pop into the Penneshaw Pub to warm up  in front of the fire with a stout before heading back to Cape Jervis.

I departed the next day and headed over to Victor Harbour then down through Middleton and out to Milang before calling it a day in Strathalbyn.

I had to stop at the magnificent Ken Blake memorial

After leaving Strathalbyn I headed north to tick off another location on the Big Things list and fatten up some items on that nights pub menu.

I then visited a few local Brewers for some tasting paddles before and after staying the night at Hahndorf on the way to Mannum.

After getting set up in Cabin 51 it was off to the camp kitchen for an early meet and greet before heading up to Saturday nights dinner destination with Shillas and Ruben  for a meal where we bumped into Lionel and Alice.

The impressive snitzel seems to be the biggest bang for buck meal on the menu.

I spent the entire 4 days at Mannum relaxing and socializing. Apart from taking the bike up to the local lookout i walked around the town and caravan park catching up with club members and WAGs outfit riding mates that camped. They were a really interesting lot of people that i enjoyed many a good conversation with and even got fed burgers and snags.
