Title: New screen advice.
Post by: bluehonda on August 17, 2013, 08:48:51 AM
I want to get a new screen for my bike to try and stop the wind noise in my helmet.
A taller screen won't do it for me because I can raise the screen that I've got now (standard screen) and when I raise it enough to stop the noise I get a lot of back pressure and have to look through the screen.
I don't want to look through the screen and in the past  I had a BMW where I attached a polycarbonate extension to the top of the screen and it pushed the wind over my helmet.  I could see ahead over the screen and had no wind on my helmet.
Can we get screens that push the wind over our heads that we can also look over?

Thanks
Brad

The calsci screen  http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/ST1300prod.html (http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/ST1300prod.html) is suppose to do that, but there are others around that I am sure other riders will mention.  PM STroppy as he has a calsci screen on his ST13 (he may be away skiing at the moment)

I went bike quip after seeing Pinky Petes  :grin Its 2 inches higher with a curved lip. I still ride looking over the top of the screen. It lifted the air about a foot higher which cleared my helmet easily and removed the back pressure  :thumb, and as its in inch wider either side PitSTop said it removed the buffeting from around her helmet and shoulders which made it easier to hear music and speech thru the intercom.

Cheers

That's what I wanted to find out.
Did you have to get the screen from the UK or can you get them from Aus?
Thanks

Brad

It'll be the UK then, surprising it hasn't been copied here in Aus.

I have one of these screens on my ST1300, well actually it was on my first ST1300 when I bought it. When I updated it stayed with me, the best and quitest screen I have ever had, I used to wear earmould plugs now I just keep them for work :thumb

got a bike quip for my 1100 just this week 20' high and clear with cats eyes and the black bit round the bottom edge A$183 landed took a week to get here ordinary post.
had 2 eagles and another sort before this my second bike quip, this i find is the best, pushes air up and over, able to see over., do a lot of night riding and keep finding birds or bats, wakes me up.

I use the laminar lip on the 1300 and also had one on the 1100.  They suit my style of riding.

one of the reasons I have stuck with the oem screen is its width and not changing the height too much.  my jacket is an olympia AST 2 Touring, which allows numerous ways of allowing air to flow through the jacket and out the back.  If I go to a wider screen I will not have the wind being able to catch the arm area that opens up for airflow. Same issue if I went for a larger screen, I dont get the airflow into the pocket area.

The laminar lip only extends about 2.5cm above the oem screen but has a real affect with changing the wind flow over the head.  When I need the airflow onto my chest I can still lower the screen enough to allow for that to happen....and for me the cost  is also a consideration.

There are some great screens available but the trick is to find what suits your style of riding  :thumb

I bought Diesel's Vstream.  If you're looking for a BIG screen, they fill the bill.  When it's fully up (on the low mount holes) it's about 15 cm above my line of sight and the "wings" reach my shoulders.  It doesn't have the "back pressure" that the OEM has.

I have the Eagle Summer Screen on mine was the first mod I did & the 1st low screen they did made such a difference would have sold the ST if I had not fitted this as the buffetting drove me mad.
Of course with such a handsome fella on their site that made the decision easier too
