A TT-style event on the Lions Road!!

I hope they have a lot of ambulances booked!  It's not a very forgiving road at the best of times, but if people start getting seriously competitive with TT type fervour, it will get very dicey.

The idea of a m/c festival in Kyogle to raise funds for the road's improvement is great.  The fact it's needed gives a hint of the road's condition.

If I go it will be as a spectator, not that the ST13 is suited for going berserk on that road even if I thought my riding was up to it.

I would seriously consider spectating on the Lions Rd as well as visiting Kyogle. It's pretty much in the middle of one of my favourite rides (I choose the Mt Lindsey Hwy over Lions Rd. Much  nicer curves on it and the Summerland Way up to Woodenbong (Love that name!))> I would also see it a great chance to get some great bike photos.

I wonder what the legal position is. The site doesn't mention that the event involves the police.

I'd want to know where I would stand if I used up more of the road than the law says I can. And what about speed limits? Which police force/service? The border runs across the road doesn't it? Will there be a strong police representation? along with ticket books, lasers and tazers along with a possible government sponsored bias against motorcycle riders? I just wonder. I'd like to think not, but there are unanswered questions. My reading of the site material didn't enlighten me, but I have a poor attention span when it comes to some web sites.

Is, perhaps, the lions road a private road? I thought some of the cost of construction was funded by the Lions club??

Perhaps an RTE to Kyogle on that weekend?

They suggest it will be closed to the public, the way the IOM road is for races.  That means the speed limits and Policing are negated.  That's how I interpret it.  Otherwise it couldn't be likened to the TT, or indeed any sort of race.
The centre section of the road over the range was built and maintained by the Lions Club as a shortcut to Brisbane.  In recent times the responsibility for maintenance has been taken over by the local Councils, even though the Lions still collect a donation at the border.
I wonder if the racers are expected to stop and drop a donation in the box?     :grin
