My mate has a 2010 R1200RT (air cooled) and I have found it lumpy and the rocks when you give it some throttle at idle.   My 2016 R1200RT (water cooled) shows none of those characteristics and is much smoother, but not as smooth as the V4 ST.

Ideally, I wanted an in-line 4, a comfortable and upright seating position with reasonable weather protection and around 220-230kg.
The Versys 1000 was the closest but not really a fan of the 'adventure style' for a road bike and it was tall and just north of 250kg. A very nice bike though, just not what I was happy to settle for. The Beemer is a bit lumpy at low revs and gearbox is clunky in the first 3 gears but after that, really lovely. Mines only done 27000 so I'm guessing the gearbox may get better with more k's on it. Time will tell.

Just watched my much loved ST drive off into the sunset, without me. Now, just turning the page to the next chapter.
