Hi from Canberra
« on: November 12, 2022, 09:36:53 PM »
Hi All,

Just picked up a st1100a and am based in Canberra.  Interested in hearing if there's a mechanic you'd recommend for servicing them.  Look forward to meeting up on a ride at some stage.

Cheers,

Dave

A big Welcome from . . . . Kambah . . .

I usually do my own but if I needed something really Techo to be done, I would probably go to the Honda dealer . . .

I usually do my own but if I needed something really Techo to be done, I would probably go to the Honda dealer . . .

Always a bit tricky.  You might have to build your own experience, starting with the Dealer.  It's not a difficult job to do your own oil changes, once you get the appropriate gear.  Mine come in at under $50 including a generic oil filter.  There's a ton of info in the tech section, and there's Manuals available in here also.
Anyhoo, welcome aboard.  The ST1100s are a lovely smooth ride with adequate baggage space.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Yeah, I should pull my finger out and learn a bit more!

It's getting a loss of power around 4,000 RPM and it feels like it's struggling to get fuel. My thoughts are blocked fuel filter,  carbs need a clean or maybe spark plugs.  It's sat for a while and not had a lot of use.  Is there anything else I should be looking out?

Welcome. Mine did that when I first  got it home. Turned out to be clogged air filter.

Excellent, filters and an oil change and I'll see what it's like after that.

Thanks

It might be worthwhile draining the tank and filling with some fresh fuel if it's been sitting for a couple of months as it doesn't take long for fuel to get stale... :think1

Also might be a good idea to throw in a can of something like this: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/liqui-moly-liqui-moly-4t-fuel-system-cleaner---125ml/214234.html

Hi there,

I'm sure there are plenty of good mechanics in Canberra, however if you fancy a day trip up to Mittagong, Trevor Verahey who owns Dragon Motorcycles knows the ST1100 very well having worked for Honda when they were in production. He did a major service on my ST earlier his year to establish a good baseline going forward. Cost about $1200, however I felt it was well worth it.

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

That's a good suggestion. I'll see how I can get along with everything but Mittagong isn't that far away if I need help.
