Mark,

I have the Z6s, I rekon if the Plods usem and seeing how they ride the bikes (Bloody Hoons the lot of em), then they are good enough for me. Besides its hard to get tyres in the right size for the front and I want the speedo to be accurate

Surprised you found the Shinkos to be slippery, Peter.  I thought they were supposed to be sticky and short lived.

I'd include Continental Road Attacks in the discussion.  I found them to be a good ride, but sold that bike after only putting a couple of thou on them.

I have had a good run from Metzeller Z6s on the 1100 and 1300, so can recommend them.

Walking along the line-up at the FarRide in Eungella I could see a high proportion of PR2 and 3.  Those guys know their gear, so I'd have to give Michelins a tick.

Haven't heard many good things said about Bridgestones or Dunlops, but both have their fans.

When it's all said (and done), I'd have to agree I'd prefer reliable grip to longevity of distance.  And I'd have to say none of Z6s, Road Attacks or PRs have let go on me.  Then I don't push them in the wet- too big a sook to want to know how far they go before they let go!
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

On reading all the comments relating to tyres - it appears - as with life - we all have our own preferences.

My ST1100 has been shod with - (in no particulatr order) - Bridgestone Battleax - Dunlop Sportmax - Michelin Pilot Road -
Metzler Roadtec Z6  - currently - F & R Avon Storm Ultra 2.

In all honesty - after 7,000 kms - I have to say these are the best of the lot - ride, turn in, grip, wear, road noise
and general handling - wet weather - brilliant - as with dry.

No scuffs - cupping - head shake or or or

I run 40psi front & 44 psi rear - no flat spots etc.

Without hesitation - I will fit them again.

Í'm currently running the newer BT-23 from Bridgestone after running Metzler Roadtec Z6 for three sets in two years. Before that I ran BT-21 but had two rear tyre failures (1 puncture & 1 blowout) so went to Metzler.
What the bike had on it when I bought I can't remember but were replaced with Dunlop D205 which by far has been the best tyres I've had. They were discontinued so had to be replaced with Sportmax giving me considerably less k's per tyre.

The D205 gave around 18,000 kms on rear tyre and over 20000 on front. The BT 23 I'm running now needs replacing after only 11000kms in four months, similar mileage to the Metzler and BT-21 and nowhere near the claimed 30 percent more mileage.

I've all ways ran 36psi/42psi as stated on the bike........120/70 front..........160/70 rear

The tyres available for this bike seem to be aimed solely at the sport rider and not the touring side of this bike.

Being one of those "Hoons", I am very impressed with the Z6's. So-much-so that I run them myself. Good all-weather tyre.

I've been running PR2's on my 1300 and getting 12 - 14,000km  per set.     I have a 16,000km trip coming up soon, and want to know if there is a hard wearing tyre that will do the whole distance.

Shink Verges in ST13 sizes have now gone 13,000kms.  A few more kms and they get my record for tyre life.  I will have to chnage them before the Ozstoc National meet I suspect, unless I do little riding...

I put my second Rear BT 23 trye on after doing just under 12000kms on 23/12/2011.

The front has about a 1000k's left on it's first BT23 giving it 15,000kms which I will do in March. Needs to replaced B4 going to Blackheath.
Estimate for front tyre from states is $AUD160 to my door.

My local Tyrepower does it free of charge if I take wheel down. They do most of the farm dirt bikes around here so my ST is something different for them otherwise it's a 100km ride to nearest Honda dealer and $20 to fit and balance.

Surprised that the esteemed Diesel hasn't bought into this one.
A very careful man with his tyre pressures he was up well over 20,000km on PR2's.
My last set did well over 20,000kms and I'm sure that it was following his example of 42psi front and back that helped get there.
Somewhere on the site his words of wisdom are written.
Never under estimate the predictability of stupidity.

I also run 42 and 42 in mine, but I do know that touring with two-up can take quite a bit from the life of the rubber.   20,000km is a remarkable effort.

I have some PR2s in the garage ready to fit up sometime.  A few ACT riders on ST11s have tried them, and nowhere near 20,000kms, more like 13,000kms.  Could be that Qld roads are less abrasive, as that can make quite a difference.

Currently have a Metzeler Z6 rear and a Pirelli front.  Both tyres are in decent condition so I won't be changing them any time soon.  I like to try different tyres but since there are only 2 or 3 types available for the 1100 I won't have that many to try!

Gonna go for the BT023's next just because they are cheapest.  I don't really like Bridgestones but I'll give them a go.

Then I'm gonna try the Avons.  I used the Storm 2 Ultra on the rear of my FireBlade and found it to be a good tyre.  I got through 3 of them and used it up until I sold the bike.

Then I might try the Z6 again, apparently they are available again.  Tried one of these on the back of my Blade too and it was alright, but didn't last as long as the Pirelli Diablo Strada so I only used one of them.  I'll see how it goes with the one I have fitted currently.
