Acknowledgement to other riders

Went for a little jaunt today, whilst out saw a number of other bikes and being the friendly type, I like to acknowledge other bikers with a nod of the head. What do you do?

I wave or at least nod to other bikes travelling on the road and I do understand that some bikes just shake too much for their riders to let go and  wave back, could be something to do with twin cylinders.

Yep, give a wave if conditions permit, espeialy White STs. (often get a wave back, much better than a ticket )

I always wave or nod if I can, (sometimes a bit busy in corners) but I get a laugh out of the BMW and Hardly riders. Those bikes are such bad handling things that they are scared to take their hands off the bars.   
Last year on a trip to daughters on Gold Coast I waved to all bikes but got so little response that I gave up by about Beaudesert, and the next bike along was a Hardly chopper with 'ape hangers' giving me the full arm wave. I felt bad then that I hadn't responded. Now I give a wave or nod to everybody and consider it their loss if they choose not to return the greeting.

I give a wave, Chris has standing orders to give me the heads up over the intercom if they have a Pillion, then I jump out of my seat with wave both hands and even the odd bum dance

I find that most cruiser and off road riders don't respond when we wave to them. For the same reasons as others have suggested I guess.

Went down the shop yesterday. Two Beemer riders, one waved back (road bike) the other didn't (GS I think).

Around here I even get car drivers waving.

Agree with Allan.....like minded bike owners tend to acknowledge each other regardless off model.

Tourers wave to tourers etc......sports bike riders battle to remove their hands from the bars to wave to anyone, as removing one hand constitutes driving your head into the triple clamp.

I always wave to the white bikes with the rider standing behind holding the 'hair dryer'... They always lower the radar and wave back. I'm sure it has saved me a few points and lots of money!!

I wave, but some days after no response from many bikes I give up. But then when another rider waves I start again.  Responses back from other riders have definitely declined in the last 37 years I have been riding.  Always a good look to wave with the right hand with the cruise control on.

I voted for 'yes other' because sometimes it's a wave and sometimes it's a nod. The biggest laugh is when I wave or nod to scooter riders and they get such a shock they don't know what to do. the strange thing is HD riders (even the leather clad ones with colours on their back) will nod or wave when they're on their own but stare straight ahead when riding with their 'buds'. Peer pressure is a big motivator to be a hardarse when it suits.

I wave or nod most times, but the funniest is when riding with Mrs Sabie and she's on her Black Suzuki Boulevard and I'm on the STead behind her, we pass a Harley and they wave to her thinking its another Harley. By the time they pass her and see its "Jap Crap" and a woman, the disappointment is staggering, it's like they wasted a wave or were friendly to the enemy and were unfaithful to the cause or something.

I've actually seen them do the damn, foiled again look and shake their fist.....

Mostly a nod and occasional wave from me, traffic permitting.
I am riding to work most days and find that weekday riders are far more likely to acknowledge the nod or wave compared to the weekend riders.

i always wave or nod, depending on what i am doing on the bike at the time, if i dont get a wave, ah well, Shiney and i played the wave/no wave game for two weeks to Middleton and back.....amazing the cheer through the headset when you got a wave

Nearly always wave. Where conditions  permit but don't always get reply.

Always nod and try to wave where it's safe to let go the bars.

Yanks have it easier because the free hand is on the right side. Or is that the correct side? Maybe the easier side?  Whatever, Hello everyone.

I will return a wave or nod but don't normally instigate it unless it's another ST, they get a full-on wave.

Not being a snob or anything but when I was riding the works, white bike, everyone on two wheels waved at me and if I returned them all I would have been riding one handed all day so after a while I stopped........................... Let a bit of fear creep in.

I wouldn't wave to a bikie to save my life !!!!!

I like to wave but it's not always practical.
However, if the other rider initiates then I do my best to get a wave back. 
On my way back from my attempt at Middleton I got a very funny and bemused look from another STeed rider on his way there. I think it was Tony but it might have been DickBYewie or even someone else but he sure did look puzzled.
Also find that the road racer types with no or mini fairings in the Grand Prix riding position almost never wave cause they're almost welded to their ride.

You must have ESP!  How else could you get a "puzzled look" from under a helmet??

Anyhoo, I always nod.  Never had one back from a scooterist but about every third HD soloist will respond.  I wouldn't dare wave to the full HD dogpack.

I wave to other riders (you know, kindred spirit and all that) but I don't wave to car drivers when I'm in my car. 
I don't understand why drivers will wave to somebody they don't know and I reckon that car drivers should have both hands on the wheels at all times.

Brad they are either riders stuck in a car to do chores or work and are jealous you are out riding, or they want a bike, but can't quite afford one yet

I'll xplain the bemused look on the face of a helmeted rider for the benefit of Biggles:

When your dog comes up to you at 5pm ("walkies" time) and you are ensconced in your fave padded cane chair with a full home brew in your bucket-sized leather clad pewter mug - in other words you ain't goin nowhere for at least another half hour - he tilts his head at 25 degrees in confusion as to why you are not following normal procedure and makes a noise like scooby-doo "eeuuffff???" - that's what Tony posture looked like and I could see his face and hear that sound.
