This is an email I have put together for our VERY large organisation. You may wish to do a similar thing for your work place ..... or even something similar to people on your email list to help educate the non motorcycling fraternity out there.

=========================

Dear Colleagues,

Please be aware that there has been a new road rule that will be enacted on the 1st of Feb 2015 in Queensland.

As a majority of us drive it is imperative that we are aware of any new laws to ensure we understand what is and is not allowed in our private and professional duties as drivers on Queensland roads.

This new law will allow motorcyclists to lane filter.

What does this mean?
http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Safety/Queensland-road-rules/Motorcycle-road-rules.aspx

It means that bikes will be allowed to pass either on the left or right of a vehicle in slow or stopped traffic to ease congestion and allow the bike free passage past the traffic.

Lane filtering

Lane filtering is riding a motorcycle at low speeds between stationary or slow moving vehicles travelling in the same direction as the rider.

Commencing on 1 February 2015, riders with an open licence for riding a motorcycle will be allowed to move between stationary or slow moving vehicles travelling in the same direction as the rider, provided they are not travelling at more than 30km/h and it is safe to do so.

Learner and provisional riders will not be allowed to lane filter because of their relatively limited on-road driving and riding experience.

If done safely, lane filtering may ease traffic congestion for all road users, allowing motorcycle riders to move quickly and safely away from congested traffic.

Motorcycle riders in bicycle storage areas and bicycle lanes

Motorcycle riders will be allowed to enter bicycle storage areas (the areas of road close to an intersection with traffic lights that allows cyclists to wait in front of vehicles stopped at the intersection, and usually painted green with white bicycle symbols). This will allow them to move quickly and safely away from traffic.

As a courteous driver of (company Name) vehicles we need to ensure we provide the courtesy of space for Motor bikes to pass freely between vehicles. We also need to be more aware of our surroundings when in slow moving traffic and at traffic lights to ensure that no motorbikes have moved into previously empty space.

Safe driving everyone.

It's useful to note we may enter a bicycle lane (giving way to other m/cs and bicycles) for up to 50 metres before an intersection (presumably with or without traffic lights).
We may also travel to the left of a vehicle in zones less than 90kph provided there is no kerb.
These finer points may make it a good idea to carry a printed copy of the law around for a while to help anyone having difficulty understanding it, and who may want to write stories on official forms about perceived grievances.

As noted above, our ST mirrors are the same height as many vehicular mirrors.  I've performed some deft slaloms coping with that aspect when practising for the introduction of this law.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Diesel. Thanks for the education. I bought my 1st book in 1981 (77 Honda K7) and was not aware that you are not able to stand up on your bike to stretch and not able to have to keep both feet on the footpegs at the same time. When riding from Roma to Coast in early 80's how else do you stretch if not able to stand up. Getting off the bike to stretch legs results in loss of too much time and how may times did we ride (solo at the time) with feet on back pegs. Maybe I have been  lucky as this is one traffic offence that I have not been pinged for.

I can just see other riders sticking to 30km/hr  :eek  :eek  :eek
I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

They will be severely punished by the Officer pursuing them between the lanes 10 kph faster to catch them.     :-(((

I printed the web page to PDF and it is available in the link below.  I've downloaded a copy to my phone rather than trying to carry a paper copy.

For everyone's info, you can't view it online- Access forbidden.  But a right click brings up the download option which works fine.
Thanks Gary.  I think I'll carry a paper copy with highlighting.  Who'd believe a phone based copy?     >:()
