40 years in the one job
« on: July 22, 2015, 05:26:11 PM »
Well I achieved a milestone today
40 years in the one job. A combined total with Queensland Rail who changed there name to QRNational then to Aurizon
Who would have know when I started as a young 18 year old that I would still be here 40 years later
I won't make 50 years as I intend to retire sometime in the next 5 years

It has been a great job that has helped my Wife Robyn and myself to raise 2 Daughters  :grin
I still enjoy going to work most days, except when I end up being rostered on to many night shifts  :thumbsup

I celebrated the day with a ride with a few work mates to Glamorgan Vale Pub near Lowood
Then my family are taking me out to dinner tonight to celebrate, I might even have a few beers as I have tomorrow off  :like

Impressive stats.  Normal for us oldies to stay in the same job.

Sincere congratulations on achieving that milestone.  I hope Aurizon give you more than just a rostered day off!!     :clap

Good to see you've stayed on the rails and haven't derailed your career in any way. You've signalled the stop blocks to retirement so no more rough shunting until the terminus of your career.

Such a long and dynamic career, although I'm sure there have been a few sleepers along the way. But soon there be no more Yanks, no more Pommies, no more Clydes and no more DEL'S, EL's DH's or DM'S .

You'll be railmotoring along.

(I'm  sure it all makes sense Leo)

I plan to stay under the radar until I retire so they they don't even know I am there
I have spent enough time on DH's, Pommies and Yanks and I am happy with the 2300 Clydes that we use
I don't think we will get EL's up our way before I retire  :grin

I needed all of those references for something to make sense. I don't want to see any Pommies or Yanks either, I'm on a FB site for ex railway guys and someone post the other day regarding the old 1200 and 1250's and how good a Loco they were and the 1600's ... I told him to wake up, they vibrated like hell, you couldn't see out of them, they were always breaking down, the 1600's during winter you'd freeze and the door would pop open half way across the section and you'd receive a cold blast.... some people's nostalgia fades away what it was really like, give me the new loco's any day.

Thanks all  :like

All I ever see where I live is NRs and an occasional DL (Pacific National). When the grain is moving then maybe a CLP or CLF (ex Commonwealth/ANR) Saw an EL once.

Congrats Leo.

Wow, 40 years in one Job! I've heard the rails are addictive :-)  I've only been in mine for 16 years, and that is longer than most others where I work.

I can't even hope 2 match Sabie's double entendres however u r now on track 2 a new journey in life and your main driver could b 2 station yourself at junctions where your choices don't derail your future.
That's the ticket eh?  :hatwave
